An inhibitor switch or nutual switch is what tells the car if its in Nutual or Park and if it safe to start the car. If you car is an auto yes it has one.

Your inhibitor switch is mounted under the top cover of the console and usually operates from the selector lever. It's a very simple switch with two positions where it permits the car to start (obviously, Neutral and Park) by closing the circuit between the ignition switch and the starter solenoid. In the other positions, the circuit remains open.

Three positions when they get old - 'ok', 'not ok' and 'crisis'. The 'crisis' mode occurs often and makes you have to wiggle the shifter to start it

My VS is at the point......It either has to be in natural or it has to be taken out of park and put back in again.

That's absurd. How wrong I was. I still stand by it being a rubbish word though.
