Default Removing trolley strips from your doors?

hi ive just started working on my 89 vn berlina and on the advice of a friend who used to own a vp berlina i removed the trolley strips from the doors. im just wondering tho since the adhesive is pretty thick ive tried using sonax tar remover and general purpose thinners on the adhesive ive had varied results the lighter patches of adhesive is quite easy to remove but the larger masses of adhesive are more dificult to remove and ive tried to peel it off but im not satisfied this is the best way to remove it as the way ive been peeling it i sometimes get finger nail wide scratch marks. has anyone else done this to there commodores and had a better method? any suggestions would be appreciated

Man, berlina's and Calais' have the best stripes. You only remove stripes from an Exec. I'd put them back on

I did mine without doing any damage, but i wish i left them on, personally i think it looks better with them on. I boiled the kettle, and poured the water over the strips, and left it for a few minutes. This softened the sikaflex up enough, to pry the moulds off. Once they were off, i used more boiling water, and poured it on the remaining sikaflex , and then used a razor, and very gently, cut the sikaflex down to a very thin amount. When it was thin enough, i was able to remove the rest of it, with prepsol. I reckon it took me about 5 hours to both sides...

Even the Execs look heaps better with them on, stick them back on man. Not only do they look better they stop you getting bent doors and that never looks good

It's true. I had a man dent the door of his brand new Alfa in a carpark once when he swung his door open into one of my trolley strips. All I suffered was a sliced door rubber. They work reeeal good
