Ay guys ive got a problem with my car that I cannot resolve, it all started when the wire from the alternator to the battery, got brittle/old as I was having trouble starting it.. so my mechanic suggested I replaced it.
I replaced it on friday, and all seemed to go well. Untill sunday arvo when I tryd to start it, it cranks over but no spark. And also engine fuse is blown, so im guessing there is a short somewhere in the system, fuel pump isnt priming either though it was.
Its also a 5L, any help is appreciated as I have ran out of patience.
did you end up replacing the fuse?
Yeah the RACV bloke replaced it, as when I broke down I had no power at all (accesories ect) replaced the fuse and got power and it cranks over now but still no spark.
Have you checked the fuel pump fuse and relay?
no point in checking fuel pump realy's and fuses guys, you have a "dead short" some where thats why the main fuse blew, i'd start by retracing your steps at the lead you replaced check for earthing. start at 1 end and work through it. you need to find what caused the problem, to rectify the fault.
everyone asks why i have DCEASE number plates... touch my car and find out.
get a multi meter, select resistance mode (some meters have a buzzer when there is no resistance) and go round and chek evrything you have touched before. so put the black multimeter wire on the engine sumwhere (preferably the altenator braket) and the using the red wire connect it to the positive wires. if it beeps when you are on a positive wire then that means that the dead short will be sumwhere between the red and black wire. id start with where the fuse sits. you will find it and i can almost garentee you it is sumthing simple and easy to fix.
