Hey everyone, i've been looking around on the internet on books i can buy about re-building engines. Basically i'm tired of having such a limited knowledge when it comes to mechanics, and i want to start learning. I'm not in a position to do any type of course or trade ect, i just want to read and learn, and get a better understanding of things.
Can someone reccommend some good reading material for me? I'm going to get myself a Hayne's manual, but does anyone have some other suggestions, on what i could get..
gregories and a bomb car
seriously theres no better way to learn than practical experience.
When it comes to rebuilding engines the easy part is assembling a motor all it is really is a few parts and nuts and bolts and checking some clearances.
the hard part is all the machining that stuff you can really only learn practically

gm made books, genuine service manuals
I bought a book from The Computer Outpost (Car, motorcycle, boat & outboard motor repair/service/workshop manuals, books & handbooks) called The Essential Holden V8 Engine Manual.Cost me $30.80 plus $6.95 delivery from Blacktown Nsw to Perth.Very comprehensive,200 pages, heaps of photos,82 pages alone on disassembly and cleaning, selection and inspection, reconditioning parts, and reassembly.
But as Pub 247 said, there is no substitute for hands on.At least with a decent manual you can get your hands dirty with a degree of confidence.
Hey mate, yeah i've seen that book on Ebay, but wasn't sure if it would be any good. I'm might pick that one up asell, as it's fairly cheap.
hcvp u might wanna start hording sum tools
lol, yeah i know. Well very shortly i'm going to have a space in the garage at my gf's parents house, for about 3 months while their overseas. The garage is set up at the moment as a full workshop for go-karts, so there is quite a lot of tools in their that i can use. I'm going to move all the karts into a trailer, to free up the space. But from what i've been reading, i'm going to need a pulley puller? Which i don't have, but i can get my hands on one. And i'm going to trailer a forklift up from work, which were not using, so can lift the motors![]()
Hey VN Luke, i just went onto youtube, and theirs actually some DVD's you can buy froma company called "boxwrench" i watched a few of their preview video's, and they seem pretty good. Problem is though, i believe it's an american website, judging by their accents. Are their actually video's on their dedicated to 304 re-builds? i couldn't find any, but i didn't search for all that long.
