Quick question for you all, is there a difference in the tail-shaft for the V6 VN-VS to a V8 VN-VS? AUTO. Be it length, design etc?
Reason for the concern, I am looking into a V8 conversion and all the V8 tailshafts on eBay look the same as the V6. Is the output spine on the auto box any different? Is the length any different?
Thanks guys!

I've seen the centre section larger on the V8 ones, don't know if that's allways the case but there are different shafts. They still all bolt up to one another
I am also curios to find out becuase i want to do a v8 manual conversion and its alot easier to find v6 tail shafts than v8's...
aZk.

Yeah the splines should all be the same etc, same length everything, the middle bit that you can seperate the shafts with, that's bigger on the V8 one in my car compared to a V6 one (I pulled them both apart at the same time)
mauals ones are the same powerslave is running his v6 manual one behind his v8 manual

Interesting fact about the Manual Tailshafts.
My next question (thread title updated) is;
Power Steering Racks.
VN-VP: V6 and V8 power steering racks are the same correct? Yay or neigh?
And I assume same applies to the VR-VS rack too, correct? (as VR - VS has a different front suspension setup to VN-VP)
Thanks mates
VN racks are not the same as VP, I'm not sure when this changed exactly but azzfox will know more about it. The mounting between the shaft and the rack is better/stronger/safer on the VP one but yes V6 and V8 racks are allways the same, just that VN-VP ones are not
Yeh VN rack has a round splined shaft, and VP has a squared shaft. VN also uses a seperate 'clamp' to join the intermediate shaft to the rack shaft, where as VP its a fixed part of the intermediate shaft. VP is much more stronger and fail proof IMO and I feel safer during hard cornering with the VP setup.
Wish I took photos of both setups to compare before flogging my VN rack off. But all that needs to be changed is the intermediate shaft to run a VP rack.
yeah racks are different vns are a pain to put on with paccies in the way.
Considering theres no difference in tailshaft i hardly think its unsafe to use either

So the VP rack is recommended over the VN, had no idea there was a difference till now!
Reason I ask about the Rack, is that i'm looking for a v8 k-frame, and can only seem to find VS ones (conversion will be going into a VN). Are the mounting tabs/holes different (on the frame for the steering rack) for the VN,VP and VR-VS?
Thanks for the confirmation on the V8 tailshaft, my suspicions were that there was a difference in length (abeit not much) but i wont scabb out and shall get one. Just seemed a shame when i have 3 perfectly good V6 auto tailshafts. Hmm.
Thanks mates, really appreciate the help.
Before anyone shoots me down on the 'its more expensive blah blah, buy a V8 VN' well I have a sentimental attachment to my VN, its saved my arse a few times. :P

K frames and mounting holes for the rack should all be the same, you can easily drop into your local Holden spare parts and check the part numbers on the VN and VS K frames to confirm this
the centre CV joints are bigger on the V8 tailshafts, thats about all i know cos i ran into a problem with my VP V6 manual tailshaft, it had the V8 size CV joint which dumbfounded me
