Default Blown Clutch In VN - Replacement Tips Hints or tricks???

Hey My clutch finnaly gave up today..... was lucky enough to get it in my shed.... (been slipping for a while) Just wondering if anyone can give me any hints tips or tricks on Putting in a new one.

i am debating weather to pull the engine & Box out and do it on a bench then drop it back in.

    or

Do id under the car on axle stands... not sure how easy that is.

    or

Pay someone else to do it...

at least with the full pull out i can give everything a good clean and my engine bay a good clean and some new mounts etc. Also do i need a Clutch aligner?? or can u just align it by eye?? not quite sure how that all works as iv never done one before.

Any help tips or tricks will be much apreciated!

    1) remove centre console and gear shifter
    2) remove shifter plate assembly from transmission from inside the car (four bolts)
    3) remove tailshaft
    3a) remove exhaust
    4) support trans on good trolley jack
    5) remove bellhousing bolts, clutch, reverse light switch, speedo sensor
    6) remove xmember
    7) support engine sump with jack stand and a large slab of wood
    8) roll transmission back gently without resting weight on the input shaft

    REMEMBER:

The biggest key to the whole operation when putting it all back together, is ensuring that as you try to insert the input shaft into the new clutch and then spigot bush, you must ensure that the transmission is 100% flush with the face of the motor. The top/bottom must be exactly the same distance, and the left/right must be too. If you don't come in DEAD STRAIGHT, you'll never get the bastard in. Even the slightest angle will throw you off.

Also, you may need to rotate the transmission very slightly left/right to engage the input shaft with the clutch splines.

I agree the hardest part is mating the gearbox with the engine clutch if you dont get it right you can damage the splines.
never use the bolts to pull the geabox on auto or manual

YES - the man makes a good point- NEVER use the bolts to pull the transmission on! If you can't get the bellhousing to slide onto the dowels by yourself, something needs to be changed before you bolt it up

lol ive learnt the hard way i once tried it with an auto ended up breaking the bellhousing. With powerslave manual i ended burring the splines but not getting it right the first time and took an hour to figure out it wouldnt go on with burrs on it clean the burrs off and it was done in 10 minutes

The easiest way is to put the bell housing to the block first with the clutch fork and thrust bearing in it makes the job so much quicker, a tip for young players is when fitting the new clutch if a old input shaft is not around fit the clutch plate and pressure plate to the flywheel with the bolt just tight enough to hold the plate it it place and use ya fingers to feel if the clutch plate feels centered ( by feeling around the sides between the plate and the pressure plate) once you have it right tension the bolts up to specs

the bell housing come off the front of the gearbox like the same as a gen 3 6 speed the 4 bolts are on the outside makes life way easier i don't no how people do it the other way they must be hanging off the box to get them out

I tried doing it that way, but kept knocking the thrust bearing out of the clutch fork with the input shaft because i'm retarded Found doing the whole trans at once was much easier.
