VN V8's did run a twin pump setup. However the external pumps wiring was piggy backed off the internal pumps.

I converted my VN stock twin pump setup in my 5L to a single pump VR SS sender unit with walbro pump and it all plugged in to the factory wiring loom and worked.

Have you tried hooking the pump straight up to your battery to see that the pump itself hasn't died?
