I have a vn v8 berlina I bought without motor box dash or any wiring in the engine bay or dash.... To install a vs dash do i need vs engine loom and harness or can I use one from the vn...... If i need to use vs wiring do i need to run body control module and is there anything else im going to need to do???....and will it run fine with my vn v8..... Thank you!!
Pretty sure you'd need the VS looms.. Duno about the ECU (Doubt it) tho..And you may need the front 2 door trims to..So there wont be any gaps..or whatever lol
A member on this forum has a Vn-Vp with a Vr-Vs dash.. Cant remember where i saw it.. probly in the My Rides bit.. Will check for ya!
edit = you need the vs loom to patch with your vn loom, you need the heater box and everything that go with it, (if you want AirCon)
so u need the vs engine loom to patch it with the vn one?
im looking at doing a vs statesman dash into a vn.
what parts do i need, obviously the dash, centre console, all the electrics, but what wiring do i need?
can i put the bcm from the vs in a vn and run the vs key?
also can the vs electric windows be put in?
thanks
it was hozy who had the vr caprice dash in his vn

alright well i have a guy locally with the crash pad from a vs statesman, all the electrics like cluster, clock, all of it. he said i can have the loom, the bcm, the centre console but he doesnt have the lid. trip computer, all the climate control stuff, he said he can just cut the whole fire wall out.
all the lower dash to, and glove. so basically everything i need bar a few minor things.
he wants $150 sound reasonable?
also how do u go about connecting up the climate control? whats involved?
and with the bcm can i use the factory vs central locking in my car? and have the nice holden key?
I have a mate how worked as an car elec, alarm installer, stereos. he said he would be able to help me out as hes helped wire up whole cars. so that should be pretty sweet.
also can u install the vs electric windows in the vn withouty modification? as i dont wanna cut holes for ugly winders in the the nice vs door trims :P
thanks for al your help, also anyone with wiring diagrams for either car post em up![]()
oh and as my cars a manual wha would my options be regarding the centre console?
can i modify the satesman auto one? or would the manual console insert from my vn fit in there?
Try this thread ............my vn is a manual with a vs dash but uses the original vn computer.

markovr did u just splice the vn loom with vs? have u got everything working? and do u have the original vs bcm?
Hozy have u got the climate control installed? how do i go about doing this if i cant install the vs componets on the vn firewall.
I've just done the conversion on my car - however I used EVERYTHING from the VR caprice - this includes the entire body loom, BCM, etc. - I also actually used the VR/VS firewall so that the dash bolts up nicely, and i used the VR/VS heater box with climate, etc.
I thought it was a better idea to trnasfer EVERYTHING over because
1) You have minimal wiring harness modifications - which in my experience tend to fall apart and cause issues. (whether it be because wires rub, are stretched, solder breaks etc)
2) you get to use all the cool newer model BCM features - light delays, central locking, power window auto control, intermittent wipers - etc etc. - and everything is basically "plug in". You also get the cool keyhead remote etc.
3) the standard wiring diagram still remains true for the most part - so for any work in the future, you have a diagram to refer to.
I used a VR "hi" level BCM, and my car was already fitted with fast glass and central locking.
The only customizations to the VR body loom i had to do (besides all the engine/ecu connectors etc for my specific application) were:
1. I had to take apart my VN headlights and re-arrange the wires etc, to work with the VR headlight switches.
2. I had to modify my VN tail light harnesses, to work with the VR "tail lights out" function.
3. I removed (but didn't have to) the ABS and SRS wiring, sensors etc.
As far as fitting up the dash goes - mine fits like standard due to the later model firewall - the only modification i had to do is weld a bracket onto the pedal box to support the fuse box metal strip thing, like factory.
anyway - that's how I done it, in order to get all the VR hi level bcm features & niceties etc. - for me, that was easier, less of a pain in the arse, and less time consuming than making custom patch looms to work with different switches etc. - With an end result that looks/is like factory wiring.
If i wasn't going to change the firewall, I'd probably have hacked away at the VN one and modified it to suit all the VR/VS stuff (including the heater box)

that conversion looks good and sounds like exactly what i wanna do but with a statesman dash.
my main question for know is how did u go about swapping over the firewalls? as the dash set up im buying the bloke said he can cut the vs firewall out and supply it with the dash.
also changing the firewall do u still need to modify demisters?
id rather swap firewalls like u as it wil aloow me to run all electrics such as climate control and stuff.
now u say the caprice has intermetit wipers? do the statesman have that?
ill most likely have a heap more question in the next two weeks a im getting the dash then, just wondering would u have any more pics? the more the better.
thanks heaps the help is terrific![]()
the firewall is a pretty big job - windscreen has to come out, then the firewall has two bolts on either side of it holding it in. After these are out, it's just a matter of cutting all the glue that secures the firewall in place, and ripping it out.
Then you have to re-glue or weld the firewall in to the vn. (welding should make the car a lot more rigid!)
plus with the VR/VS firewall in place, you can also use the steering column, which will give you adjusttable steering column goodness!
there's heaps more pics of the conversion and firewall out in my VN thread.
Once you have the VR/VS firewall in place - you don't need to modify anything. Just insert as much VR/VS stuff as you can- the dash bolts up nicely, the doors will need VR/VS door trims and they'll line up to the dash.
VR/VS power mirrors are a bit different too.
VS central locking has the two step unlock - not sure if the solenoids are the same as a VN?
You sound determined - that's goodyou'll need that.
It's a BIG job.. But would great when it's done!
I'd love to do it. But my patience or lack of knowledge with it would kill me
If possible, can you take piccies during the process? I just like to see EVERYTHING hehe
So in other words,
Q-"What do I need to replace vn dash with vs dash?"
A-"You will need Azkwazere, HoZy, VN_LUKE & Markovr"

Used a vr rear wiring loom that goes from the right hand kick panel to the tail lights.Had to lengthen the wiring to the radio console switches too and everything works even the windscreen demister but I didnt pull apart the original hvac so I dont know about the climate control.

to much hassles
ok well ive had a look at your thread and the firewall out looks scary. My question is as a 18 yr old with no welding experience is it a bettter option to cut out the vn firewall out and put in the vs stato one im getting. i could probably find someone i know with a mig to weld it. my issue is my car is a manual does that mean i need a vs stato manual firewall tfor it all to fit up with my gearbox?
i will be using a standard series one vn motor, with a 5 speed. i have done some basic wiring myself before, but nothing real difficult. im thinking putting in the vs firewall, feeding through the vs loom would be the easiest as long as its not difficult to remove old one and weld in new one. Luke VN did u have any issues in welding in the vr firewall?
with the climate control in the statesman it all bolts up to the firewall right? so to run the whole climate control ill need the vs firewall?
im thinking ill use the vn window modules and motors.
and reversing wires in the headlights i can do easily.
sorry for the thoushand questions just working out exactly what i have to do.
howd you go with it mate? im in the process of ripping out a vr stato firewall as i type this aye
