Some of the hoses from my VN's fuel tank have fallen apart and i want to replace them.
There are small hoses from the filler, small hoses i think may go to this round
valve type thing near the fuel filler neck and also the canister hose. Does anyone have
a diagram or picture to show where all these hoses go with regards to the fuel tank.
I have the Ellery VN Manual but it is of no help.It shows a station wagon tank and there
are only a couple of hoses on it anyway. Thanks
These are for a VP and swap between sedan and ute, but yours should be similar (see next post). The sedan should have three hoses going to the top of the tank, 2 small ones and a larger harder plastic hose, like in the attachment.

The info is a big help. I did look for fuel tank stuff etc but did not come across any of that.Looks like
the hoses go to fuel vapour separator.I thought there was only four connections though but there must
be a fifth for the canister ? Anyway, atleast i have some idea now. Thanks.
Man,i did reply but i don't know what i did wrong. Anyway, this helps alot,Thanks.Now.will this work?
hmm, also had drama's with my lines there.. will try and get some pics up....
I think i know what goes where now, i hope.
lol @ "think" he he..![]()
I had to replace these on my VN when I replaced the fuel tank. There are 2 small hoses and one large one, all go to the filler neck. The small hoses are no longer available from Holden and I had to use ordinary 3mm ID fuel hose for the small hoses which works fine except you have ot use differerent clips as the OD is larger. The small hose that goes up to the charcoal cannister is a problem because the original type hose is joined to a metal pipe just behind the rear wheel with a piece of 5/16 fuel hose that slips over it and the metal hose and the fuel hose I had to use has a larger OD than the original stuff so shoving it in will block it off. I solved this by machining up from brass adouble sided hose barb, one side to suit the 3mm fuel hose the other the 5/16 hose. I also replaced the filler neck to tank hose and to make it slide on easy use some vasoline. The diagrams are in the genuine VN Holden manuals.
I replaced the small hoses. They may even have been vacuum hose ?, but it worked. I bought a
T piece at first because i couldn't find where the cannister one went but found it up the top of the
fuel tank inlet, near the other two small outlets. I had trouble with the cannister small hose going into
the large metal pipe also. I blew threw it and seem to not be blocked. I had blocked off the hoses from
the cannister to the throttle body but know think if i re-open them i may get garbage from the cannister
pipe as it was open to the elements (near the fuel tank, when hoses were broken)
Also, i do not have the VN owners manual, are they online ?
Dude, you're awesomeI was going to post those pics, and that link, but you saved me the hassle. Incidentally, recently in Canberra I purchased a new one of that big hose to the top centre of the tank for the princely sum of three dollars and fifty cents. Worth buying because the old one has usually shrunk slightly over time.
Good advice, especially with the retarded Holden hose clamped onto another hose part.
you'd better hope they weren't vacuum hoses, or you'll be replacing them again within a few years. Fuel vapour destroys that stuff.
Just pick yourself up a Haynes or Gregory's manual from Repco etc.

I do not plan owning this car in a few years. I have the Ellery VN manual. Not real good.
I haven't seen the VN manuals online. I have 4 or 5 of the volumes. I got some of them 2nd hand from an automotive book shop and the rest off classifieds. I recall seeing them for sale on the internet. I don't have my VN anymore, traded it in for a VY last year.
I have the Gregory's manuals for both VN and VP in addition to about 4 or 5 of the genuine ones. Gregory's ones are pretty good as well.
The guy at the spare parts place who said he was a Holden mechanic sold me vacuum hose, looked just like the hose from the washer bottle to the nozzles. I questioned him however he would not be convinced so I took a piece and put it into some petrol. It swelled up to 3 or 4 times it's size quickly so the next day I took it back. If it's not fuel hose it will not last 5 minutes and will just come off. The original hoses on mine were split and I could smell fuel whenever I filled the tank. I only discovered it when I had to pull out the fuel tank because it had split under one of the straps and started to leak. I got a good 2nd hand tank, no rust (thanks to the donor car obviously having huge oil leaks) and only one tiny dent from Comwreck in Sydney for $70 and that was with a sender, pump and straps.
I will just have to see how my hoses go. Where are all the dumped cars these days. Not so
long ago there would always be cars thrown away, good for spares, there is nothing around
anymore. The VN is 20 years old, where are they ?
Just thinking what that washer hose looks like.I am pretty sure its not that. That is quite soft
and flexable.
any plastic/rubber that is not fuel resistant will do the sameI have a photo somewhere of a rocker cover gasket that swelled up to 3x? its original size in a bucket of fuel.

fuel hose is usually reinforced and has fuel written on the side. the washer bottle hose or vacuum hose that I was given has no writing on the side or reinforcing braid and it had a raised line along it's length from the moulding process. If you have a bit of the tube you used left over stick it in some petrol and see what happens to it. If it swells up I'd be replacing it with fuel hose.
VN's a re disappearing off the roads, I notice a lot of them getting wrecked these days with very minor damage or with no other obvious damage other than faded paint as the cost of painting them is in most cases more than there worth. I had an immacualate 1990 Vacationer Sedan for 10 years and the aircon went, it needed 4 tyres and the ring gear was worn out in 3 places, needed new engine mounts, an exhaust, roof lining was just starting to drop in places and the motor was just starting to leak oil. I did my sums and it was going to cost a lot to get it back to scratch and I would have had to keep it for a lot longer to make it worth it so I though it was time to upgrade. I like the look of VN's and miss the old girl but the VY I have now is much much better. I just hope she's being well looked after.
I own a VN but i never liked the way they looked. I once owned a VK Brock years ago and i
loved the way that looked.I think they looked great again after 1998, when that larger model
came out. They just got something wrong with the VN etc shape. Some angles it works
good.It may have something to do with the wheel base and the body overhang.Anyway, there
history.Best looking Holden, HQ.
