not gonna be much worse, if any than the v6.

most people reckon they get around 400-500k from a tank

i get 300kms to a tank of gas (55 litres). gas consumes 30% more than petrol over the same amount of k's.

Jeez, I wished I got that.

When I had my auto V6, I was averaging around 16L/100km in the city, pretty much stop start driving. When I got my V8, that went up to 21-23L/100km in exactly the same sort of driving.

When I moved out of the city, with a bit more of a highway commute, fuel consumption dropped to around 15L/100km on average in the V8.

Its a shitload worse than a V6 on average.

With LPG vapor injection I get about 400k's around town per 70 litres of straight propane. On the highway about 600 k's per tank. My dad can get much more k's than I can so to an extent it will depend how you drive. I don't drive on petrol, I've got more power on gas anyway. Just for the record I want a manual too.

My manual V8 will average around 13l/100 in daily peak travel around town. Driving around town at night I can get economy below 10l/100 if I try

My best effort yet, was 9.5l/100 on a 20km journey from Doncaster to Bayswater, not using freeways

keep in mind a few of us are talking about manuals, which generally use less fuel. i reckon my 1-2-4 gear changes are saving me a bit of fuel. im not sure what autos are like

Not as good as a manual V8, but still better than an auto V6

Gees your full of shit about this Stealthy, you give false information, either you had some dud V6s or you gave them heaps and drive your 5 litre slower than any granny that ever exsisted .

If you want to know how much fuel the 5 litres and the V6's use you can search up Holdens official specs, they are spot on (and nothing like Stealthys who btw drives like a granny AND has a 6 speed manual so it is irrelivant anyway).

My VP is a Auto and I can make about 650 ks doing 80% highway from the 80 litres, that's as good as it can do it, that's running a VR based lean cruise tune, It'll sit on about 10L/100 on the highway, mayeb slightly under 10 on a really good road. That's with 3.45 gears but hasnt got noticably worse since the 3.08s. My brothers manual VS uses a fair but less fuel but it's still not as good as a V6 which can run well under 10 if you get them setup right. It's all crap anyway, it's not 1990 anymore, anymore than 6.0L/100 is rubbish these days. To make a 5 litre use under 10L/100 on non highway conditions you would have to drive it so much slower than a modern 4cyl it would be ridiculous to even be in a V8, clutching it on any slight downhill slope etc

I'm talking about my 5 speed (with stock diff gears)
6 speed has 3.73s, so you'd think it would even out to the same as the 5 speed
On the way back from Vic, it sat on 7l/100k's most of the way, on cruise control. Sometimes 6, sometimes 8, but average of 7. Driving to work and back, it sits on 10, depending on the speed of the road. Not full of shit, just full of experience. Thats the good thing about V8s, i CAN drive it so i use less than 10L/100k's (Wait, didn't you just say i was full of shit? now its possible, make up your mind), or i can have fun and use about 30l/100k's. He asked what to expect, i can only assume he wouldn't be dropping the clutch (or stalling the auto) ever set of lights giving him 99L/100k's, sp why not tell him how good it CAN be

Guess all 3 of my V6s were duds (Although, you don't have to tell me that a V6 is a dud, its widely known)

At the end of the day, the V8 will drink more than the V6 with all things being equal (diff ratio, condition of engine etc etc).

The best I ever got out of my VP V8 auto was 10.9 L/100m on a couple of hundred km cruise down the Hume Highway. Sure, there were times where the instantaneous fuel consumption reading dropped to 6 or 7 L/100km, but that was usually when the road was slightly dipping down in gradient, or the car was coasting along.

    So, best I got out of a V8 was 10.9 L/100km.

Best I got out of my VS V6 was 8.4 L/100km on the same drive.

    Problem solved.
