Mates vp wagon, after a short trip the key in the barrel gets bloody hot. any ideas?
its like sumthing is shorting it burns his fingers
mine has it and it doesnt get hot
then again my key has the plastic
sometimes when i pull the key out of the ignition it seems hotter than a key should be. never worried about it though, seems like a common problem
might change the switch behind the ignition see if that helps
Just get a standard GM key cut with the plastic.

High resistance across the switch contacts causes the heat buildup. Common problem. I've seen it melt the plastic before. Replace the switch and wires part of the ignition barrel, but don't bother with a second hand one, it'll probably do the same thing.
