Default How hard to change for s1 to s2 motor

hi hi finaly got a new vn but problem is that the motor isnt too god.i have a spare motor which is a aeries 2 and was wondering if the wiring or anything needs to be moded. the problem with my current engine is that there is a very bad petrol smell and a cluncking noise coming from the front of the engine. how long would it take to change the engines over? Thanks..

Depends if its a auto or manual,

    V6 Crankshaft Info

If its auto, all you need is a S2 drive plate to use your gearbox, if manual you got to find a S2 flywheel. Too bad your not in NSW i got a S1 engine in the garage

Apart from that the other major difference is the radiator and the fact the thermostat is at the front of the engine on a S2.

Well then for the gearbox to bolt up all you need is a S2 drive plate, ive done this before with a S2 motor and S1 auto.

I dont know how you would get around the cooling system thing, someone else may be able to help.

Really dont know, maybe the engine harness but i would think that would be all that you would have to change.

also the car uses alot of water and when the motor is off you can hear bubbling coming from the overflow tank.. if anyone on here could help me to do this job i will reward you for your time.

    wiring harnesses are different FYI,

i modified my loom to suit the s2 the first time then swapped it to a S2 loom (never finished swapping it but the plug is diffrent near the fuse box)

the water temp sensors location/s are different (front of the motor instead of rear like in the S1), nothing a bit of electrical tape & a soldering iron cant fix and its easiest to modify the S1 loom to suit IMO.

Overflow tank, Radiator/hoses, memcal is slightly different but it will run on the S1 memcal, Flex plate is different (8 bolts not 6) be careful, these bolts are 22nm torque rating NOT 80nm like the 6 bolters, you will snap them if you exceed 40nm, they are strech type so they need to be replaced, you can get 10 strength bolts from a bolt specialist. and use loctite & an accurate torque wrench!

Its not hard to do really and well worth swapping!
