Unhappy Alot of water out of exhaust, HeadGasket?

    Hey guys/gals

I seem to be getting alot of water out of my exhaust.
when the car is cold its fine but if i let it run for about 10 mins water starts dripping out.
Topped out the resivour and took it for a quick drive.. got home and the water dropped down abit.
The resivour is clean, it does not have that creamy stuff you normaly get wish a head gasket. So i dont know whats going on.

    Its a Vn Calais S1

Any info on whats going on or how to fix this would be great.

    Thanks Terry

Are you sure its water not fuel? If your waters clear then it might not be your head gasket, sorry i cant be more of a help

    sure it's not just condensation?

you could always try the morton trick:

i like morton's trick there. I do get white smoke on hot or cold days.. so does that mean water would be leaking into the pistions overnight?

Interesting concept of water leaking into your pistons over night, never heard it before but i suppose you could give it ago.

@ levymetal, i thought bout condensation as theres no milky water. Although your info from morton throws a spanner into my thnking :P

yeah, well it could be a number of things. i see water pissing out of new cars exhausts as well, so it may be nothing at all. the op just has to determine whether it's coolant or condensation . a bit of smoke in a car this age is probably expected though.

how often do you actually top it up?

I top is up probably every 10 days. when i do top it up, every time i top it up it normaly takes around 700ml. Im going to go over the whole cooling system on the weekend. Make sure there is no problems with the radiator or anything like that..

If you are in Victoria then blame it on the weather, there's so much water in the air the last few days you should almost have a hose worth of water out the exhaust

my hygrometer told me that the relative humidity was over 70% yesterday

check ur oil dip stick, if its all youghurty then water is mixing with the oil. It also gets under the oil filler cap so check there too. A tiny tiny little bit under the cap is noting, more likey condensation but if it looks like a youghurt lid then yea head gasket. Also if ur car is missing alot and not running ur best that can be a head gasket too. But take the car for a proper drive, like 20 mins so everything is really hot, park the car and then check the exhaust while running, then look for steam/white smoke. cause a short drive wont heat the exhaust up fully enough to merit a proper test.

when my head gasket on my old 308 went it was missing and driving shit, lost a couple of cylinders and the oil filler cap was FULL of white gunk.

A sure way of seeing if your headgasket is blown between a cylinder and water jacket is take it into a workshop or radiator specialist and ask for a dye test.

A simple diy test, take it for a long drive, get it excesively hot then allow it to idle, have someone inspect your exhaust as you rev it, rather hard to. Short trips, condensation will still be present, but after a long drive, it shouldn't be.

Just a note with the dye test, DO NOT top up, or you will throw the results out!
