Hi folks,
I'm driving bog standard VP V6 with auto trans. When trundling up to 90kph, the torque converter does the lockup thing, as it should. If I'm accelerating lightly then the lockup is smooth...
HOWEVER... under moderate acceleration (eg. going up hill) the T/C shudders horribly during lockup. Sounds like its engaging/disengaging several times quickly before it gets it right.
(my missus always asks "WTF was that?", and I have to switch to "explaining auto transmission for dummies")
Anyway its been doing this since day-1. I told the mechanics about it on the first couple of services, they didn't care, so I stopped caring too. The tranny has given me 15 trouble-free years. And I've seen a few threads with other people having the same issue. So I'm just wondering:
a. Is this a common thing?
b. Should I be worried?
c. Should people who do 90 in a 100 zone be shot?

mate replace the torque converter that's what i did in mine and nice smooth lock up now no matter how much boot i give it

A half buggered tps sensor will do this as will a broken coolant curcuit in the ecu, I've had both happen to myself and they both cause a shuddering lockup. Do those before you think about playing with the converter itself. If it also uses alot of fuel go with the ecu swap first
