    Default VP Shudder/vibration

    Hello,

    i have a VP Executive Series 2.

when i excelerate i have a vibration/shudder coming from the front left of the car.

when i first bought the car it was a slight vibratioin and could hardly notice it but over the passed few months it is getting worse and only happens when i excel. when i take my foot of the vibration seems to go away but u can sort of feel that the car is being held back, as if the brakes were on slightly.

any help or ideas of what it could be would be much appreciated.

i've checked it out and there is no visable shudder when reving on the mount. the mount looks a little old (like old rubber) but i just don't believe this to be the problem. need to be 100% sure as getting engine mount changed is not that cheap and i don't have a hoist.

only happens when car is in motion.

have someone stall the car up in gear while you looking at the mounts and see if the engine lifts up then try it in reverse to torque the engine in the opposite direction . engine off looking from underneath the car where the engine mounts bolts to the crossmember in between the engine mounts is a rod which runs from oneside of the engine mount to the other this can sit on the crossmember and transmit engine nosie into the frame of the car and bang and rattle to there should be a gap between this rod and crossmember of about 19mm on a new mount.

well, after closer inspection i believe the problem to be coming from the front of the motor like a grinding. could this possibly be the harmonic balance? the vibration is getting much worse. not going to drive it anymore till i find out what this is.

as for the mounts they are all fine.

also, not sure if this is related but when i go from park to drive or reverse to drive there is a *Clunk*.

I don't think moving parts on the engine like the balancer would cause a vibration in the suspension, the noise however would be. For the noise take off the drive belt and feel the bearings in the water pump and alternator. Engine mounts do collapse and as strgas says the metal rod in the mount can rest on the cross member and if that's the case the mount needs to be replaced.

well, i took the belt off and only thing that i could find wrong was the tensioner was not spinning freely, and the water pump had a little bit of a wobble in it. would have only been a few mm or so.

the ppl who i bought the car of had the water pump replaced just b4 i bought the car. also, once again not sure if its related but when i turn A/C on there is a massive squeeling noise.

thanks for your post guys, getting there! seeems to be a process of elimination.
