Hi people, need some advice on what people think this might be..
WELL last night I went for a drive, about 60km and 50km of that was freeway, nice easy driving.... 3000rpm changes max....
Park out the front of my mates place and turned the car off for about 5-10 minutes then when I went to re start it, I had a knocking noise in the engine (as soon as it turned over the noise started) SO I turned it off and started it a couple hours later to go home and was even worse and pretty damn loud then as I was about to drive away the oil pressure light came on for not even a second then the light turned off, and stayed off.
So I started driving home and when revving over about 1500 the knock was pretty much non existant....
Car drove exactly the same as it usually does, no lack of performance just a hard knocking noise when below about 1500-1750 rpm
It was idling fine, just loud.....
So does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Got me stumped, usually I read threads about it getting louder with revs, not disapearing :S
Thats my story, any help and suggestions would be appreciated![]()
When did you last change your oil and filter and what grade of oil are you running ....
Changed oil and filter about 5,000k's ago and currently using a 15-40....
i would check your oil pressure with a gauge to confirm what pressure it has , it could be a lifter problem or maybe a oil pressure relief valve stuck open to a worn bearing start with the basic's , maybe even spin on a new filter ...
Yeah as strgas said, check your oil pressure with a 'master' guage, if it was lifters it would get louder with engine rev's. The oil light coming on for a second could indicate a slight blockage, how often do you replace oil/filter and whats your driving style? Long trips only, short trips? bit of both? start/stopping?
Sweet ill give it a look, will give me something to do tomorrow........
The car usually drives a bit of everything, so yeah........ The thing is its not a tick its actually a knock/clunking noise and goes away any revs over 1500.....
Thats what has me confused because if it was a blockage wouldn't it always do that no matter what rpm? (guessing)
that sounded exactly like what happened to my VR, was big end bearing

WELL! thank god it was nothing bearing or oil related...... was just a stuffed harmonic balancer (the inner part seperated from the outer section)
But i think i might do an oil flush next service just incase
Thanks for the help![]()
