hi guys have just removed my front struts on my 89 vn to fit some lower springs.. i have just undone the big bolt at the top of the strut that holds the metal plate on top of the spring, but i still cant get the spring off the strut any help would b great thanks

BEFORE you remove the big nut on the top of the strut, you have to compress the coil spring with spring compressors like levymetal mentioned. One on each side. Compress the spring until you can move it, then remove the big nut on top. If the whole shaft turns, there should be a square section on the top of the shaft to hold it with.
Depending on the crap thats built up around the base of the spring, and how long it's been on there, it may be a bit tight to get off. Just pry a screw driver under the bottom of it and it should come.
Make sure to fit everything in the order it came off, and the correct direction.
If the spring isn't compressed the tension could be locking the plate against the strut shaft.
Be very careful, put the nut back on a few turns then compress the spring.
