hey guys, trying to fix a friends car
its a vp berlina with a factory 5.0 v8
its been sitting in their driveway for nearly 2 years unstarted, i went round to look at it for them and they had bought a battery for it. popped it in and gave it a go, just got one click from a relay somewhere and the fuel pump primed.
have been googling about and am lead to believe it could be the park/neutral switch under the central console, the starter solenoid or the engine dissabler key thingo near the glove box (but that only came on the calais apprently)
just need some help shed onto this please guys, im not great with holdens so any help is a appreciated
Thanks, Tom
p.s. the car is auto
give the starter solenoid a could of hits with a hammer and see how you go
i don't think it'll be the neutral switch, and the immobiliser stops the car from starting but doesn't stop it from kicking over
Not sure about the v8's, but the v6 vp's the immoboliser cuts the injection pulse.
If the starter motor isnt firing, give the solonoid a coupld wacks with the handle of a hammer.
yeah i gave it a hit with end of my breaker bar when i was trying to get it going but its in a very strange place, under the headers right at the bottom near the passenger footwell
couldn't really see any wiring cos if the location
will take another look at it when i get the chance and get my torch out
someone seems to think it could be the nutral/park switch cos it did it to them when they borrowed the car so they rammed it into park and it started lol
is this plausible?
but unlikely
most of the time it is the starter solenoid. especially if it's been sitting for a couple of years, it could be reeeealy sticky. i would try bridging the starter first to determine whether it's the solenoid or the neutral switch.
