Querying About putting Toyota supra running gear into an 89 vn

custom engine and gearbox mounts. custom exhaust, etc.

there was a VR getting round a while ago with a 2j in it from memory.

Engine itsself will fit fine length and height wise. Just lots of fabrication to get it sitting there

would be easiest going with the rb swap...just steal shit from VL and thats virtually it.

vl k frame will fit. maybe easier to adapt.
it will be a bitch to get registered though.
engineering approvals and emissions control aswell as maybe brake upgradees.

I got to have a look at a VR ute with a 2JZ in it. Everything fit nicely in the bay but I don't know which K frame it was running or what the setup was with actually bolting it in. But it was complete and running

1jz or 2jz in a VN-VS is doable, but you run into issues with your steering as the exhaust comes out the wrong side. Generally easier to do an RB conversion, as you can stick with holden parts instead of having to fab up new mounts. Easier to get it engineered that way, too.
