    Default wiper settings

The wiper linkage arms broke in my VN.
My son, who was using the car put a 2nd hand one in. But now the wiper park position is halfway up the windscreen, while they sweep right to the bottom. The sweep angle is fine - but they are stopping in the wrong place.
    Is this adjustable?
    Thx
    Alan

once they stop where they want to then just remove then and reset them to the bottom...i'd say your son put them or the linkage on when they hadn't finished there swipe

As above. Had the same thing happen, re-adjust and away you go.

    OK guys, thanks.
    I'll try it.
If I rotate them down about 30 deg, I was worried they would try and disappear into the motor somewhere and wreck the mechanism.

    Nope, doesnt work.
What happens is they take a small trip up the windscreen then want to dive down below - lodging themselves on the cowling.
Is there anyway the motor can be out of synch with the mechanism. I never pulled the busted one out, so dont have much clue how it goes back together - without pulling this one out.
    Thx

unless i'm reading this wrong, it sounds like you simply don't have the wipers on the motor correctly. what happens if you take them off, and adjust the angle to compensate (to make it go the full way up and stop at the bottom of the screen). i think you've adjusted it the wrong way

If I get the sweep right, ie to bottom of screen and up to edge of screen, they stop about half way up screen when motor turns off.
If I set them so they turn off at bottom of screen, they want to sweep another 30 cm or so down to the engine.
My son says the problem with them started when they suddenly started parking themselves halfway up the screen. Somehow then the rack thing got busted, he replaced it and now we cant seem to set them right.
Is there any way the motor can be out of synch with the rack?
What determines when the motor turns off when wiper is switched to off?

let the motor stop at bottom then re align the rack.... that is where your problem should be

By re align the rack do you mean remove the cowling stuff and pull the rack out? This is about all that seems to make sense.

Yes, remove cowling etc. The relationship between the motor shaft and the wiper linkage will have to be reset on the motor splines. You used to get a metal jig with a new linkage which was used to set the angle of the linkage with the wiper motor parked, now you have to match the angle of the old linkage with the new. Going to be trial and error now.

    Yes - that worked.
He seemd to have had the linkage in a partial position rather than at full travel when attaching to motor drive spline.
    Wipers working again.
    Yipee.
    Thanks
