Thinking of making an inside temp sensor to add to the ambiant sensor.
So I made up a switch and second sensor and it almost worked. It will show the inside temp on start up and switch to outside once only and not go back to inside without turning off the ignision.
Now to find a better switch.

Got the extra sensor all wired in - now to get it to work all the time!! If you change from inside to outside it changes instanly - counting down 1 at a time until it hits the ambiant temp. But it then wont turn back to inside sensor. If you start with outside temp it will not change to inside.
Going to go test if I turn the unit off, change the setting, and then back on again - will it refresh the temp?

Some pic - not much to see yet
I've put the inside sensor under the driver's seat tucked into the back padding just a little to hold it in place. We'll see how that goes.

OK on the way to work today I checked the temp and thought I had left it set on inside sensor. Into the carpark and have a look - nope it's on the outside sensor - so I changed it and the temp changed too. (by 1 degree) So then when through the ignision on and off again to get the temp to change between inside and outside sensors. yep 1 degree difference between the inside temp and outside temp. (car was in the shade)
So it may be just that you need to let a little drive time go by between temp readings. Will have to go for a longer drive to test this out tonight.

Some longer runs have shown up the temp will go up slowly when flipped between inside and out side but fall instantly down 1 number at a time to the new sensor reading. There it stays until the car is turned off or some distance is travelled - yet to be worked out.
So I leave the car with it set to inside temp so when I get back to the car I have how hot the car is inside. Switch to outside temp and it will fall if cooler only.
So not perfict at all but workable for now.

Today (31/12/09) I had 52 inside the car and 40 outside. The inside temp sensor was inside the centre consol

this is a great idea. coould you post up a wiring diagram![]()

The road trip on Thursday went well.
Must be as part of the default settings that quick rises in temp are not counted. Outside was real hot and inside real cold= the A/C is working well. So when changing from outside to inside the temp dropped almost instantly. Try changing it back and it goes up every 5 mins or so by 1 degree. It then stays in this mode until the car is turned off. Once it has reached the ambient temp (on the out side setting) it works as it should and will read small increases and decreases.
So next step is to wire in a reset mode for whrn you change from inside to outside so it gets the new reading each time.
