I have my old diff center siting on the bench with the gears removed and a mini spool in their place. The car is my daily driver and i want to know how many others there are out there with mini spools in daily drivers and what i can expect in terms of tire wear, economy and handling etc.
My old daily was spooled, Ate the tires....parking was annoying and chirpy. Did great donuts thought....got defected for having perfectly bald ties on the rear, It was from 2 months of driving....
They chew tires, and kill crap drivers. If you know what you are doing you will be fine. Have to be a little more careful in the wet too.

if its a daily it will shit you to tears
everything that was said above is true too
But, It is fun....If your driving it on stockys and can afford tires every few months...Ohh and you can drive then no probs, but try it and see you might love it or hate it

stockys? lmao, they are the worst to drive on with a spool!
18's werent too bad but and with the 20's i can barely feel it.
still wouldnt like it in a daily tho...
id rather pay for 20 inch tyres than put up with the shudder/chirping from stockys lol
they can be wicked fun in the right application, just dont smack into a ferrari and expect your insurance company to cover it if they find out u got a mini spool.
illegal mod = no insurance.
something to think about before u get a spool instead of a tightened limo centre, kaaz, etc
Yeah? I snapped a axle with 18s....So...i put up with the chirp for the sake of my splines. Besides there's practically 2 reasons for a spool. Drag racing and burnouts...I did the latter alot. and whn ur tires wear out every 2 moths or quicker....Its just easier to have stockies(slab for a set of six tires)

just ask stealthy what he thinks. from his opinion alone i would put a minispool in my daily. tyre wear is caused by burnouts, not the spool itself..
Padrickz88 also has a spool in his daily VN
Stop doing burnouts then! I understand its hard, since you can now do awesome ones, but your tyre rear is simply from that, not the type of diff.
I had 18s on my car for over a year, and they were still well above the tread indicators. But, one big difference, not a single burnout!
Learn this skill, and a spooled daily driver is your friend.

performance wise, it feels glued to the road. i tried to unsettle it a few times (Return lane at the end of the drags at Heathcote) just to see what it would do. It was actually hard to get a slide on 19's without a firm kick!
carparks are a breeze, you know its there so you adjust your style accordingly. The point is.. if you think carparks and tight corners are annoying with a spool, why did/ would you get one?
I'd put one in my other car in an instant, but i use it for towing cars on trailers and heavy loaded trailers. So in this case i choose to leave it the way it is.
I was a sceptic, who is now converted
Hit me up with some reputation points if i've helped you out! (Star in the bottom left!) Cheers!

i had a mini spool in my vn for about 4 months. i had a set of 15" pursuit rims and they were bald as in 3 months and that's with no burnouts on those tires. just every day driving. but in saying that it depends on where you live and work. if you have to do a lot of u turns or or sharp turns to pull into your drive way or work place then the tires will wear really quickly but if you can turn wide then there is not as much friction on the tire. the worst thing i found tho was the plastics in the car would shack heaps when turning sharp.

Not for a while, although common knowledge is SA roads are the worst.
Either way, tight turns every day, don't buy it. I did a fair bit of driving on mine (although 18s) and they were fine, after a year. Even my other cars, 15s, 16s, 17s, the only common thing that chews tyres is burnouts/fun.

Ok... I'm assuming since you want it in a daily you driv it on public roads?
Then a spool is illegal and dangerous. Even moreso if you need to drive in the wet.
End of story, thanks for playing.

Stealthy's cars are spooled , he fully supports spools, even for daily drivers, it's all about how you drive, skids around every corner, your tires wont last you 3 months.
Putting my spool in asap![]()
