So.
I've just gotten back from the mechanics with a $250 bill for them to change pretty much nothing on the POS. As it stands, all I've learnt from these arseholes is that the fuel injection pulse is around 88ms, not the 5-16 they say it should be. The car was running perfectly fine before this happened this morning - started first kick this morning, drove it to the petrol station (About 500m down the road), turned it off, pumped the petrol and then this shit began. After it finally started, it went fine once it got to 60Km/h, then as it slowed down - it began to shudder and eventually died, refusing to start again.
They thought it was the injectors themselves, but no dice. They even went as far to check the TPS sensor until they magically decided they couldn't fix it after producing their invoice for me to pay.
Anybody else have this issue and know what I can do to fix it? I'm about to jump down these idiots throats.

Borrow an ecu, shove your memcal in and see what happens, injector timing comes from the ecu doesn't it?

Vote one for broken fuel pump, but could a mechanic be that silly? maybe you filled it full of diesel :P, to me this is clearly related to the filling of the tank in one way or another
Well that's what we thought, fuel pump. We can't hear it whirring or anything when the ignition was turned on, but fuel still comes through the lines.. And no, don't be silly - the diesel was on the other side of the garage ;P
The report from the 'mechanics' says;
- Suspect injectors
- Fuel flow 'too low' (Even though its getting flooded)
- Injector pulse width to high at crank causing car to flood

does it shudder as you accelearate? i had a similar problew when i ran my VN close to empty and the fuel filter got cloged, it was ok cruizing but under acceleration is shuddered and played up.
I wouldn't joke about that Jason, some clown brought his brand new Hilux into work a few months ago saying it was running really rough and as soon as it did he pulled over. Got it towed into work we had a look and the boss knew exactly what he did. Luckily he stopped the car before any major damage.. At one stage the engine could be likened to a adult male ryno trying to break out of a cage! lucky the engine mounts didn't shit themselves.
I didn't notice the fuel stop earlier but logically that has got to be it. Go back to the servo and see if there have been any complaints and exactly what the fuel was. After that test your fuel pressure before the filter and after the filter or just drain the tank, replace the filter and try with clean fuel.

if you have your receipt then you can claim the repairs if its found it was bad fuel...thats what it sounds like, it has a gut load of water in the fuel...in the pipes from the refinery to the storage depots they use whats called a plug in between the different grades of fuel...this plug is actually water...not as uncommon a problem as you might think...
Sorry for double posting;
The car is fixed, apparently. The explanation I got was "Coolant Temp Sensor", can someone explain to me how this has ANYTHING to do with the problems occuring?
I think they just swapped out the filter and drained the tank, tbh. Saying that was probably their cover up.

No the car will still run fine with that busted, it'll just run a bit rich. Oh well sounds like you will never knowat least it's fixed
Mine chewed fuel heaps as well. And got to the point where it kept stalling. I couldnt start it! Even the moron mechanics couldnt fix it.
Eventually, I bought 3-4 cans of carby cleaner (about $8-10 a can). Sprayed inside the plenum, air intake, took of the EGR valve and sprayed it out. Everything was full of carbon build-up. Seriously, there was a huge patch of carbon on the ground afterwards. The car was hard to start after that (obviously some carbon had been flushed through the engine). But after about 5-6 tries, the back blew out a massive black cloud of carbon and crap.
My VT starts and runs like a new car now. I keep spraying it every 1-2 weeks with carby cleaner, and it is pretty much coming out clean now.
Also, replacing battery, plugs and leads helped also.
But your VT would hve had a dirty maf sensor, nothing to do with a VP, they don't have one
