    Default cluster help

hey all just got myself a 90 model vn and the cluster needs replacing... everything works except the odometer and what i was wondering is what other model vn or even vp will bolt straight in without swapping dash or modding wires... so basically asking if i could get a vn calais cluster with the revs/speedo will it all connect up without modding?

The speedo has stopped probably from the little cog inside the speedo head. $20 from Ebay and half hour to fix it.

Any speedo head from VN to VS will slot into the cluster no problem.

Any VN or VQ S1 cluster will fit the dash - just the L3 units need a patch loom to make it all work.

I tried replace the cogs..but everything is so old it tends to break..

Do you have any pics for reference.. Im guessing i keep doing it the wrong way and I shag it all up..

But, I use spare clusters to test and tweak on

The trick is that the magnet must rotate when you clock over some k's by hand. I use a small screwdriver to do this. Be careful not to make the numbers or cogs.

If the magnet fails to spin pull the cog out and replace in again. Make sure the cog has some grease on it.

A L2 cluster will bolt in no probs if it's a VN unit. A VP unit you will need to move wires.

You can also fit VR/VS gauges to your cluster including the speedo head. Just need to make 7 holes in the PCB and scratch a little of the green backing off the PCB for the nuts to make good contact. Job only takes about 30 minss to do.

You cant use the VR/VS green PCB on the back of the cluster - must modify your VN PCB.

I've done about 10 now over the years.
