Is it blowing straight hot air even when the dial is on cold? Down in the footwell where the rod connects there is like a little button. If that button is broken then turning the dial has no effect at all because the rod isnt making contact 2 push the button in and stop the heat.

Just hope you have not ripped the mount arm out of the heater box. You should be able to move the flap (air mix flap) manually freely back n forth. If this is OK the the mount clip may be stuffed. it has a tag that clip on and locks the rod into place so when you move from hot to cold the flap move the correct amount.

unclip the rod and bend it back so it's kinda straight looking. turn dial to full cold, pull the arm that the rod attaches to fully back towards the controls and pushes the little black button in. then re-attach arm and see how it goes

When you turn that dial, it pushes or pulls that threaded rod. This should be fairly obvious with that unit removed from the dash.

This threaded rod clips into the bottom of a lever arm which is moved back and forth when you turn the dial.

This lever arm controls the airflow, 88greenVN alluded to this earlier I think.

The button mentioned before is contacted by that lever arm at the rearmost point of travel (towards your back seat), I wouldn't really worry about it, mine doesn't work, most people don't even know it exists. The idea is when you turn the dial to full cold, the button is pressed and a vacuum switch shuts off the flow of cooland through the heater circuit at your heater tap. In reality, if this doesn't work, you will have hot water flowing through the heater core all the time but when the dial is set to cold none of the air is directed through there anyway so it doesn't really matter.

    Try as immortality suggested here

If it still doesn't move properly, you may have skipped a few teeth on the plastic cogs within the hot/cold selector unit. In this case, have a little think about what needs to happen, then grab the rod and hold it steady, and force the dial over to where it needs to be. It is probably best to do this with the controls installed in place and the rod clipped to the lower arm point at the rear of its travel, this way you can just jam it over to full cold. You may have to do this with it set at hot, this may take some more thinking.

If that doesn't fix it you'd better provide more information to have a chance of being helped.
