I pulled the sump off my series 1 VN V6 this morning and was having a nosey through the contents of the bottom of the sump as you do and was quite happy to find that there was very little crap at all swilling around in the remnants of the oil however the one thing that I did find that kind of puzzles me is this spring.
Does anyone have any idea where it might have come from? Mmmmmm...

The spring from your long ago disolved timing chain tensioner?
Oh crap.
Thanks.
It's ok I think every VN motor in the world would be the same![]()
One positive thing is that at least I know why the engine is rattling now.
I'll add it to the list.
I wonder if this is why my engine rattles.
really dont want to take the sump off to find out though. Apart from one of these little buggers or the tensioner itself in the sump, what else causes a real loud engine rattle?
Well it was certainly the fault with mine but all fixed now. Thanks very much greenfoam!
