i have to change the inlet manifold gasket on my V6 VN
does any one have some tips for me, what are the hard bits, what should i pay speciel attension to?
and does the gasket/s need any sealant put on or not, if so what sort?
Apply some ultra-blue around the water galleries. Other than that, just be really clean and take your time.
Got a Gregories?
a) If yes, use it.
b) If no, buy one and refer to "a)"

Never removed mine before but the Gregories says to drain the coolant, can you get away with not draining it or draining only a little out?

No, you need to drain the coolant, otherwise as soon as you lift the manifold off coolant will pour inside the engine, which is bad...![]()
Take care not to cross thread your manifold bolts or over-tighten them. I over tightened mine and it stuffed one of the valley seals. Ended up leaking worse than when I started.
Give you manifold a good clean while its off too, can only help
You'll find that the throttle body elbow gasket/s are somewhat hard to get on/off without tearing. If you doo tear it though its easy enough to make a new one up.
I also like to place some rags over the valley while the manifold is off too keep any crap from falling in

Looking for a good condition VN - VS V8!!!
If you do tear the throttle body and adapter gaskets, they don't much... about $3 each![]()
