I've got one of my bushes on the sway bar link fallen off and is creating a clunking noise when i drive over a bump or turn. Just wondering if doing it yourself is relativitely simple to do and as with most suspension, does it have to get wheel aligned? I'm driving a VN Calais
Yep it's pretty easy and no you wont need the wheels aligned, it's not part of that, the rubbers are only a couple bucks at Holden but they will break again if you drive in an agressive way. So it's best to upgrade the link pins and rubbers really
Mate its a really easy job to do, and no you dont have to get a wheel alignment.
Just a nut on either side of the pin, and a rubber and washer inbetween, really easy to do.
And try to retighten the nuts when the suspension is resting at static height, not when the car is jacked up with the control arm hanging,

Try the How To section for a step-by-step.
And try not to forget the shifter that you left on it the pin, they make lots of noises when they bounce into your floor pan on the highway at a later date
Thanks everyone for your help. I have got a set of Natholine sway bar link kit for $55 today and realised that unlike the conventional links that came with the car (which are straight), my new ones are z shaped. I've been told there ok to use on my vn but was wondering if the z shape lines have to be faced a certain way?
Also, I called a tyre place who does wheel alignments and they said that after i've replaced my sway bar links, it needs an alignment......i'm confused?
Yes they have to be faced a certain way BUT if you install them right (grease the right places, correct tightnesses etc) they will self align fairly quickly I've been told.
I'll check mine shortly for you to tell you how they should sit.
Tyre places will always tell you you need a wheel alignment, I'm not 100% sure in your particular circustance with these different links. I'd say do one just for happinessthey're only $60 ish.

Thanks heaps Shane...your help (as with everyone elses) has been excellent. I definently get a wheel alignment just for safety since i ride on dusty and bumpy tracks. Please do let me know which way there to face....even place a photo...if you can. Many thanks
OK. I don't have a pic as my links are not "Z" very agressively. I believe however that the lower end of the link should be the forwardmost end of the link on each side; the top (strut mount end) should be rearward of it.
Should come with an instruction sheet depending on brand / stockist, so follow that to the letter and you'll be fine.
