    Default battery draining.........

hey, my car isnt roadworthy yet so it just sits in my driveway (well more i dont have enough $$ to pay all the bloody fee's they want me to...$900 just to get rego)

its got everything to pass a roady, so far ive installed a headunit, amp + sub in it, + some underseat neons wired to the ciggy lighter...

now ever since ive had it, the batterys been going flat, ive recharged it with a battery recharger, so i ripped out the good ol multimeter, and tested if there was any ohms being sucked through between the (+) terminal and the batter (+) terminal, 0.08mΩ, i figure this is normal... but i also removed the, Radio/ ant fuse, ECU/RADIO fuse + ciggy lighter fuse....

the Ω level didnt change, so ive ruled out its not my sound system, as ive tripple checked the wiring

the battery looks 2-3 years old, is they're any way to tell??
im thinking my batterys just lost its ability to sustain a large charge in the lead acid, as after recharging for 24 hours it just starts.... ive heard batterys last for 3-4 years on average, ill take it down the shop and have it tested.. but i jsut wanted to be sure first... and ive checked, there is no glove box lights/boot lights or any kind of lights on that could be draining the power and i have wired the REMOTE power for the amp into the correct Accessory power.... but yeah any help would be cool..

    cheers

    Cool

maybe because its been sitting for a while....stick it in your mates car and go fer a nice drive somewhere...see if that fixes it......sitting in the driveway idling doesnt charge the battery.....it needs revs......

Is there enough fluid in the battery? If not, top it up with distilled water. A lot cheaper than a new battery.

i dont recharge the battery while its in the car, especially with the price of petrol, i take it inside and connect it to a charger im borrowing off a mate, after charging the votage goes to 12-13 V

i wish i had a battery gauge on my car

where can i buy distilled water or do i have to make it my self :P is they're any easy ways to?

cheers how do i know if its got enough fluid? how does it work, help conduct the electricity?, i thought the batterys were only composed of lead acid???
heh i should swap it with my brothers for a day or so, and see if he notices

a good idea to swap with your bro...as long as he doesnt mind having to swap over if it doesnt work......... most batteries ahve , like, 6 screw caps on the top...if you carefully unscrew them(no ciggies near it....highly inflammable !!!!)...and if the fluid is over the tops of the plates by a few mm's, all is good....if a mate of yours has a Hydrometer.......get him around..( if he owns it he knows how to use it) .....it tellls you your distilled water/ acid ratio....

Yeah u need 2 take it out or atleast take it down the steet or something once twice a week. Battery will go flat with out charge from the alternator. I would charge it up b4 u start driving it full time and see how u go, but 11 plate batterys cost around $80 so thats not 2 bad. Replaced my in the ss few weeks ago and no troubles now and Indy_387 toped his up with distilled water and his problem the vn calais not starting is fixed thanks 2 the RAA
    Cheers.
