Hey guys i was just wondering what the fastest time in australia is for a stock 5L. I have a VN SS i'm running and have got it down to a 12.88 @ 103 MPH but that's as far as i can push her i think. I have done diff gears, slicks, transmission dad built a turbo 350 for it with a 3000 stall converter, and stripped the car completly no sound deadner on the floor either and took the fuel tank out and put a race tank in with holley red fuel pump. No air con or heater I was seeing how far i could push the motor with 220 k's on it and all i did when i accquired it was change the oil and put plugs in it after about 10 meetings. I've been told it's Oz's quickest and fastest stock 5L so i'm just asking around to check for sure.
Are you the guy that emailed me a few months back? because if that was you then yeah that is the fastest at least in a Commodore. If that wasn't you well then there's someone else with a similar car doing the same kind of times. Thing must almost float it's so light
haha it might of been my old man he has an account on the forums. It's pretty light for a VN it weighs 2820 pounds with me in it and 2640 with out me in it.
So, about the same as a V8 powered HB torana.....
100 shot of gas and run 11's
Is the motor completely stock or has bolt on mods? I'm curious as to how fast this car could go.
haha no nos is going on it i have another race car in the build and most of the money is going into that.
The motor is completly stock no mods at all cept Sewage pipe coming off the throttle body down though where the air box was and out where the spotty was. This gained me 7 tenths and 6 mph after running the car initialy when it ran 15 flat in complete stock form.
So, not even an aftermarket tune? Exhaust? Come on, spill the beans....What exactly has been done.
Nice gain from the intake.
no aftermarket tune at all the pipes have been dumped just underneath the driver and passenger seat with HSV mufflers but it ran the same times with the two into one dumped before the cat without the muffler we had to put the dual pipes onto it to run efficiantly with the mufflers.
The message I got was on ebay and the guys were running 18 degrees base timing or so, dunno about this 7 tenths from the first run to the next with only intake changed. You sure the seats didn't fall out as well?, Normally you can get maybe .3 from a out the bumper intake
yeh we took the seats out but they weigh next to nothing and left everything else in the car by that stage. The timing of the car is 18 degrees without it earthed and 12 degrees earthed but the talk it they actually love having the timing put the other way so dad and i are gonna play with that after we get a new cam in the motor.
It would appear as though somebody isn't giving the whole game away....
haha what else you wana no go on hit me up
sounds like a bit of a beast I really want to strip out my car so I can keep up with some of the v8 boys it might happen one day.
Whats it like to drive or should I say race.
It's a good car to drive aye goes gun barrel straight never has dramas going down the track. Only trouble i've had was when a 180sx dropped it's guts out of the gearbox on the finish line and i was the next car down that lane and no track official saw the oil trail and i hit it and got sideways on me 170k's and all i did was roll off the throttle and it pulled itself back nice and straight. Also has no sway bars
This is legit i ran a 12.88 @ 103 with a stock motor i only just pulled down the motor last weekend to put a cam in it to go abit more consistently into the 12's. Many people ask me what i have done to the motor and when i say nothing they don't belive me but it is legit for all the non believers.
Yeah I know mate I belive you when you say it's legit weight is one of the biggest factors in making a car slow down the quater mile then theres not enough power, or a good enough drive train and not enough traction.
hahha, I beleive you, the mph isn't too much for a stocker. But the car must be very light. With those gears and stall mine will be at mid 13's and that's at least 150 kilos heavier than yours would be
It's light alright Foam....It weighs less than my Torana
Not by much, but it's lighter.
yeh that's tru. i've even gutted the doors to the point where even the intrusion bar is out of the passenger door and the two rear doors my door still has the intrusion bar in it. I've taken all the sound deadner off the floor and with the carpet and all the sound deadner on a scale it all up weighed 30 kg's in that and that's when the car dipped into the 12's for the 1st time. The MPh is the car maxed out the cam runs out at 4800 and i'm shifting at 5400 just before the rev limiter at 5500 i've tried shifting at lower rpm's but it just doesn't have the torque to keep pulling so i have to keep the revs up.
Anything you wana no just ask aye i'll let you no on all the little things we have done to make the car go that bit faster everytime and i was like over 8 months of trial and error to get the car down to the 12.88 so dad and i have tried pretty much every we can without touching the motor
I'm just going to run a simulation on such a car to show its possible to run this time at this weight (I know it is). I'll edit this when it's done. Here's a simulated time slip, assuming a perfect tune
Sun Jan 17 10 10:48 am
Time Slip For:
Striped VN 2820lbs +Stock worn 304
RT .500
60 ft 1.739
330 ft 5.037
1/8 ET 7.911
1/8 MPH 85.95
1000 ft 10.439
1/4 ET 12.607
1/4 MPH 103.32
Ideal shift point is 5650 rpm but 5400 is only .04 slower
Wallace Racing-Drag Racing Pontiac powered Firebirds,Trans Ams and Dragsters
try that
Also the cars best 60 ft is 1.77
hp is around 260
tire size is 26 inch
weight with me in it is 2820 or 2640 without me in it
3 shifts
4.11 diff gears that's all you'll need
haha that's good considering the cars rev limiter is 5500 and the cam only goes to 4800 haha
what simulator are you using ?
ahh ok then that's cool the rev limiter might be at 5600 it's whatever the stock tune is lol. But now i am putting the cam in we have another chip that'll bump it up to 6000 so i'm hoping with just the cam lifters, and springs it'll get me to run conisisten mid to low 12's just so i can run super street before steping into my new car when thats finished and run super sedan
