I have a problem with a series 1 VN V6 water pump. I have had a series 1 engine built up for my VC club race car and I was about to fit it into the car but after fitting a new water pump find the pulley does not line up with the rest of the pulleys. The engine builder used a timing case from a later model engine so that he could fit a double row timing chain. I just measured the case and found it to be about 10mm thicker. Is the pulley from a later model different in offset to the series 1 pulley? The only other alternative I can think of is an electric pump.
The early VN V6 had a spacer between the water pump and the timing cover (matching the silhouette of the water pump). What is the water pump meant to fit? Perhaps there is a difference in the water pumps between SI and SII.
I was wondering whether that plate was necessary, supposedly all the pumps are the same. The pump came with a spacer to go behind the pulley, I've taken that out and maybe with the spacer plate removed It would go very close. Now I think about it the spacer behind the pulley is most likely for the later models. Thanks for that may have solved the problem.
