Hi Guys,
Quick question.
I am in the middle of replacing the gearbox extension housing seal and thought I would wiggle the output shaft to see how much play there was in the extension housing bush.....
Guess what, the bloody thing flops around like you know what in a bucket!
So, the question is
1. there is supposed to be a bush there right?
2. how much play is ok
3. easy or difficult to change?
(Its a VQ 5L by the way)
Thanks fellas, great site, always come here when i have a problem.

Just a thought, does the bush fit the tailshaft spline? cant see how mine can have so much play and not show up as vibration.
Perhaps it's the outside of the tailshaft yoke that centres the output shaft at the end of the housing. I cant be 100% sure, (since it is about 20 years since I played with a POS auto), but it may be like the input shaft into a manual gearbox that needs an external spigot bush (in eng crank) to stop it flopping around.
yea thats what I am starting to think, I have done a couple of hundred k's since putting in the new seal and its not leaking. if the bush was on the output shaft and capable of wobbelig +/- 3mm i reckon it would be buggered by now.
Also when you fit the tailshaft, you need to align the splines, push it in then move it a bit to get it fully home, this must be ligning up on an external bush
Thanks
