As the title suggests, my car takes a leak on me when i have the A/C on. Ive read thru some previous threads about how the water is coming into the drivers side footwell but they dont seem to be similar to my problem. When im driving around normally its fine however on a long sweeping left the sound of trickling water appears and so does a wet patch of icy cold water on my left foot. It comes out of a pipe as you can see in the pics below but there seems to be no clear spot for it to connect to? The A/C temp has also started to dwindle after this problem has become apparent. I have had the A/C pumping on a really hot day and then turned the car off to have water drip from both the pipe shown below, the rear centre vents and underneath the climate controls unit itself. Any help would be gr8

Never seen that pipe before, but I've had the icy foot bath problem. Only happens on a left hand turn because thats the only way the water can flow out of the heater unit. In my case it was a blocked drain pipe. If you can get under the car its a little hole above the transmission. It can be a little tricky to see until you know where it is.
To check if its blocked give it a good poke with a cable tie or some wire and if its blocked you should get some water flow out of it. Of course you could get to it the other way by taking your dash out and heater unit apart but I'd recommend going under the car.
As far as I know the only other thing to leak cold water out of there is the A/C evaporator and thats a lot more $$$ and hassle than a blocked drain pipe. Try unblocking the drain pipe and let us know how you go.
Also depending on how much water you've had come out of there you might want to consider taking the carpet out and cleaning it/letting it air out. There's nowhere for that water to drain off to and it'll pool in the footwell. Get's rather stinky after a while.

Have you just had your air con redone?
Mine actually leaks too but it leaks green coolant .
It has not done it in a while though, I just suspected it was some excess.
Air con still works, I am keeping an eye on it though.
Cheers
yes but the air con guy shut off the circulation through the core, and the coolant is cold.
got me stuffed, I suspected it was just some left over residue?
Aircon still works, so all good, maybe if I ignore it , it will go away
BTW it is exactly the same deal: sweeping left and out it comes, but seems to have dissapated a bit.
Cheers Dan
Been happening ever since i had my headunit installed on the VN, im sure the guys at JB must of hit something![]()
I will just add this only happened after the air con was regassed and filled with refigerant.
Only happens when the air con is in use.
Afte the heater core tap was shut off.
I suspect it is some kind of overflow, if its a leak then that sucks.
The air con guy told me a cars air con can never be fully sealed...
Cheers
Dan
The air con unit does leak water out (condensation) hence the drain pipe, if it was completely sealed then the drain pipe wouldn't be necessary.
Coolant only enters the cabin from the heater core via the pipes through the firewall. What may have happened is that your drain pipe is blocked and at some point coolant has leaked/spilt from the heater core/pipes into the heater unit and pooled in the drain pipe tube. If it wasn't blocked the coolant would simply drain away. Each time you use your air con it will put more water into the drain tube which would keep mixing with the remaining coolant and make more green water.
This theory would also explain why the coolant is cold and why it only happens when the air con is on as it would create the excess water needed to refill the drain pipe tube and spill out through the heater core housing and out into the driver foot well.
Bear in mind this is just a theory but it costs nothing to try to unblock your drain pipe so you may as well just give it a go. It can be a little hard to find the drain pipe until you know where it is but its in the transmission tunnel on the passenger side. If you can't see anything just try feeling around until you find it. You'll know right away if its blocked because as soon as you poke something into it water will come out.

D3V14NT = Spot on on this one.
I believe that cars with climate control have 2 drain pipes, 1 each side of tranny and normal controls have 1 drain pipe. Pipe can be spotted from underneath as round at floorpan then goes flat for about 6 inhces. Supposed to let water out but remain sealed otherwise. Shove long screwdriver up and poke around inside tube. Think of it as a tiny pinata full of muddy treats.

the father in-law had the same problem in his vn,had it fixed by his son who ran a giveway sign and had the arse end taken off by a brand new rodeo.
anyone got a picture of where this drain plug is?

anyone got a picture or diagram of where this drain plug is and what it looks like?
Cheers
Dan
Dan, there isnt a plug. There are two small pipes that connect/drain the lower heater core plastic housing (which subsequently also drains the condensation from the Air Con element/core) outside the capin and out the top of the transmission tunnel.
If you remove the plastic around the stereo console, you'ill see them. They either crack, perish or are blocked with dirt.
They are sealed, and the bottom (which is exposed externally) look nothing other than the shape of puntang. Two flaps. (apologises for being obsene, but thats the best way to describe it!)
I believe they have hoseclamps to the heatercore plastic housing, so you'll need to remove the stereo housing facia to take a good look and accessibility as far as i know.
ahh ok thanks, the stereo housing insnt too hard to remove, should give he a good eyeball at whats going on.
Cheers

Dan, no worries mate. Its faily simple.
Just be careful of the plastic stereo surround. The edges can break. I wish i had a dollar I found the previous owner broke one. (yes i've been through a few part cars.)![]()
