Voltage regulator in the cluster or faulty fuel gauge.

To get the calais cluster to work you will need to make a patch loom up with the the 4th plug.

Replacing the whole loom in the Vn is a big ish job - patch loom is much quicker.

ok well i can put a wire to join the 2 wires in the sender plug and the gauge goes straight to full would that mean i might need a new fuel tank

    Would not think so.

Pull the cluster out and then the speedo head, The voltage regulator is inside the cluster. Pop the regulator PCB out and inspect the solder joints for cracks. Very very common problem. Resolder any sus joints and your gauge should work much better after that.

If you have to bash the dash - fix the regulator.
