    Default Rear Doors not working On VN Wagon

    Hi All

    I have a VN Wagon and just recently the exterior door handles have both stopped functioning on the rear doors (not the tailgate) of the car.

    The interior one for one side is still working but as i put the child lock on the other door (due to a rather frustrating 4 year old girl) i cant get that door open at all.

    Is there any way i can get that door open or am i now going to be forced to doing darling childs buckle up by leaning through the window.

    have you tried opening them from the inside.
    if that doesnt work then take the door trim off and have alook at the connecting rods at the lock and handle and see if giving it a slight pull it should open. i just had the same problem

    I can open one from the inside so i will look at that one when it stops raining on us up here in Townsville.

    The other as i said has the child saftey lock on it so i can pull and pull with no change.

    I also had this problem. After breaking an exterior door handle while ignoring the problem I did the following;

    1. Ordered two new metal door handles from Holmart.
    2. Removed the rear door interior trims.
    3. Fitted the new handles. This helped as the plastic ones were distorted or bending. This may or may not be an issue but it helped my problem.
    4. Cleaned and lubricated the door latch and locking rods and mechanisms.
    5. Adjusted the door latch mechanism. There is a rod which pulls on another rod. This has an adjuster which can be screwed up and down. It needs to be adjusted so that has some free play but unlatches the door lock.
    6. Put it all back together.
    7. Still all working fine.

    So i should be able to get the Trim off the door that i can not open?

    Might order the door handles first. Might look at a full set of 4 and just do the lot at the same time. Already have a differant key for one of the doors compared to the Other door, Tailgate and Ignition.

    Never tried to remove the trim with the door closed. I'm guessing it is going to be tricky.

    Holmart sell (hopefully still do) a handle and cover for one door. About $14. However you can remove the handle and it fits all doors. The cover is for the passenger side front door I think.

    try giving your child locked door a good whack while you work the handle. This worked for me when my VS had this problem - though VS door handles are metal so slightly different to yours

    Here is the link for Holmart;

    VN -VS DOOR HANDELS (STEEL GMH) SOLD INDIVIDUALLY AS ONE (1)

    If you get your door trims off you might want to try and clean and adjust the mechanism first before buying the handles.

    I only know with mine it took the handles to complete the job.
