Red face stiff steering after replacement.

I have changed my VP steering wheel for a VS wheel. The steering seems a lot heavier / stiffer since I have put the VS steering wheel on. If I tighten the nut holding it on right up the steering becomes really stiff so it is hard to turn. To have the steering that it flows freely the steering wheel has a slight wobble in it (very slight at two points). The new wheel is not a airbag one. The steering works fine I just want to know how or why it has become so stiff and if I can rectify it? Thanks

No. the plastic covering was and is still loose. There is no feeling of scraping when I turn the wheel like it is caught on something. That said it must be rubbing on something somewhere?

I had a similar issue when fitting a VY wheel to a VZ.

Turned out that the VY wheel had several posts on the back of it which were level with the mounting spline. On the VZ wheel, these were recessed slightly.

I shaved a few mill off these posts on the VY wheel, fitted it and it worked perfectly.

I'm not suggesting that anyone modify their wheel like this as it may not be legal or insurable, but it worked for me

    Cheers

i put a vs wheel on my vn ss and all i did was shave the tonge thingo off the back of the wheel a bit cause it rubs on the plastic bracket watch-a-ma-call-it that holds the indicator stalk on

Update. On reading these replies I did some further investigating and found that all of the above were correct. The tab thing-a-am-jig that switched off the indicator was ever so slightly rubbing on the plastic on the column. Also the horn contact ring was just slightly rubbing the plastic bit on the column also.
So I stand corrected when I said it was not rubbing as it was. I thought it was not as I could not feel it grabbing anywhere.
The fix: remove steering wheel, remove the BOS collar ring thing, take the horn contact ring off, fire up the dremal and start shaving about a mil and a half off the face of the collar. I left the tabs/nipples there for the horn contact ring placement and then glued the ring back into place and used the dremal to shorten the nipples. I put the wheel back together and put it on the column and it works like a dream. Now there is only about a millimeter clearance from the horn contact ring to where it was formerly rubbing.

Thanks guys for your help and ideas.
