    Default Vn Overheating

Hey, my VN is having some very strange heating problems. The gauge is completely eradic. Sometimes stopped at the lights she will get really hot then cool down the second i start moving, then othertimes shes fine. The othertime when cruising witht he RPMs in above 2grand for 2 long she gets really hot, any ideas. Ive cheaked the coolant level and the thermostat, me outta ideas??

i find that after i put the pacies on, mine gets a little zesty on idle (one or two notches) after a while it settles.

the only thing is, is that my heater hoses are really old , and last week i burst one (boy was that fun).

other than that im kinda having the same problem. but as i said it has only been since i put the extractors on.

im not 100% sure but i think the series 2 runs coolent/water throw the motor throw diffrent water jackets and such.
i rember a series 1 that i worked on ages ago.
i get a new thermostat, coolent and flushed the radiator out really well
you could try that it might work
or even try cleaning out the throttle body so it gets colder air flow and better air flow throw

Try a new thermostat, either that or the cluster is playing up.

my radiator decided to drop its guts the other day along the centenary highway, my temp gauge as always was stuck on the resting pin so i had no idea untill the exhaust gasket burned out and the car sounded like a small aircraft. slapped the dash and the needle jumped up 2 spaces before the red. killed the ignition and let the car roll to a stop along an off ramp.

replaced the radiator and the engine is fine so i was lucky with that one, the thermostat is definitely getting replaced and im currently searching for a replacement cluster, and i now have new zaust gaskets

apart from that i was lucky

Yeah bought a new thermostat tonite, cooler one though 82C rather then the normal 91C. Runs beautiful, not heaps cooler but no more playing round on the gauge, reakon me thermostat was just rooted. All good now, cheers for your help fellas.

I had the exact same problem with my vn calais series2 about 3 days ago. I tested the thermostat (took it out and put it in boiling water), and behold... it didn't open. so i took it out and now its working fine. Car takes a while to warm up but that's to be expected due to lack of thermostat. I'll replace it tomorrow though so it's all good.

Funny you say vn s1's run hotter than an s2 as my s1 vn does not get to halfway. Basically, my whole cooling system has been re-done. All new parts in it so it works like new. As for it fluctuating at the lights, i wouldnt be bothered because they all do that (my dad's vs commodore for example, done 27,000km and it fluctuates, almost identical motor). If its in the white range, its good, although i might be concerned if its creeping around the red zone. Good rule of thumb, should stay around 1/2 at the lights on a hot or cold day, and should stay around the notch below halfway whilst driving.

i'm also having heating troubles, after driving for around 20 - 30 minutes, when i pull up home and turn car off i hear bubling.. this arvo i quickly popped bonnet and had a squiz, and the water in the overflow tank thing thats on the right (the one that all the coolant thats pumped through the engine goes (i presume) is bubbling away, i put my hand on it and its red hot, and i could feel the bubbles.. temperature guage doesnt move much.. and i have a brand new radiator and coolant levels are good.... hmm :/
