    Question LS Engine conversion legalties

I'm playing with some ideas about doing an LS engine conversion to my VP and I'd like put something in thats a bit bigger than an LS1.

Does anyone have any idea as to the legalities of putting an LS2 or LS3 into a VP?

I'm not sure if this kind of thing depends on what state you're in but if it does i'm in NSW.

    Cheers,
    Jarrad

For a definitive answer contact RTA, afterall they are the controlling body regarding vehicle registrations etc.

as long as the new motor falls within the rta's size limits for motor swaps, all the emissions stuff from the LS motor is on there, and the work on the conversion has been done to a decent standard (enough to satisfy an engineer) i can't see any problem with it. it might pay to upgrade the brakes to vt fronts at the least to keep the engineer happy.

RTA is your best bet, they have all the documentation. There is also a technical enquirty hot line. Googlle! There is a displacement limit for a conversion (in max size). Its a value times the mass of the vehicle. I think for 1330 (VN/VP commo exeutive) was 6.2.. 6.3 liters.

They may have changed this since then.

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I'll be giving the RTA a call.

After seeing all the LS1 conversions I knew the engine conversion itself was legal just wasn't sure if there were displacement restrictions or anything along those lines. Hopefully i can get away with 6.2L

I know its possible to convert to an LS series engine, I've read plenty of the threads regarding it.

What I was wanting to know was whether or not a VP can still be street legal with an LS2 or LS3 engine in it due to the higher power and greater displacement of those engines. I figured someone here is bound to have pondered the same thing and may know the answer. I dont know if there are any limits regarding power to weight or displacement to weight with engine conversions and wanted to find out. I had heard that the brakes needed to be upgraded to something more suitable for the higher power output but that was it.
