hey just bought a vn, again 3ed.
it is realy weird it runs always but it has a bad surge when it starts up and just runs loud n like shit but there is no miss fire, its coved in dust like it has been on dirt roads a lot i was thinking of taking the inlet manifold off and cleaning it n getting some new spark plugs n oz sensor and seeing Wat it runs like
if worst comes to worst get a new motor the taco says 320 xxx but the moter who knows its a vn haha
any comments appreciated
leaking injectors or clogged injectors maybe a leaky fuel pressure reg to ???? its only a vn what more do you want it runs
I'd give it a good service making sure to change all the filters, leads, plugs and the oxy sensor. Is it running hot at all? Whats the fuel consumption like?

Looking for a good condition VN - VS V8!!!
yeah heats up bad, today it over heated, and the fuel consumption is bad
ben.
yea wats the wat to test pressure for the fuel pump, wat do u do with ejectors how do i clean them,
thanks Ben
get ur cooling system preasure tested, and get a full engine/radiator flush...
Check out my VP

befor you start spending money, check your fault codes...
Fault Codes is a good place to start. I'd recommend clearing the ECU first by disconnecting the engine fuse for a few mins, then go for a decent cruise and check what codes are lodged after that. That way you aren't looking at old fault codes that may not be applicable any more.
Give your cooling system a good flush out, won't hurt to replace the thermostat, and bleed all the air out when refilling it and pressure test it. If after that you're losing water or over heating you've at least knocked out some of the common problems. If you find your losing water it may be seeping through the intake manifold gaskets which would also be contributing to the crap running of the engine.
Excess fuel usage can be caused by quite a few dodgy bits and pieces or a combination of dodgy bits n pieces. Some possible causes are oxygen sensor, fuel filter, air filter, fuel regulator, fuel pump, injectors, dfi/coil packs, ecu, bad earths, CAS sensor, Coolant temp sensor, PCV Valve, blocked Cat and Carbon build up in throttle body/intake.
Personally I like to replace the oxy sensor, coolant sensors (both), all filters, plugs, leads, flush and clean the cooling system and put fresh oil regardless of how the engines is running when I get a new VN/VP.
I also like to take the intake manifold off and thoroughy clean it, the throttle body and the elbow between the two whilst replacing the manifold gaskets. Easy enough to do if your handy with a spanner. Use carby cleaner for cleaning out the throttle/intake but try to keep it out of the TPS. I also prefer to remove the IAC and clean it with contact cleaner but others have cleaned it with carby cleaner and had no problems, maybe I'm just anal haha. If you do take the intake off make sure you've drain the water out first or you'll end up with an engine full of water.
Point of the matter is you might find that replacing one part solves all your problems or you could be like me and my current VP and end replacing just about everything and its still running shit.

Mine suffer's from leaking injectors aswell, Big puff of black smoke on startup and it chugs for a couple of seconds untill it clears its throat. But thats ok, it's dual fuel, just switch it over to gas once started and warmed up.
