I'm trying to work out the cause of my A/C staying warm and need some advice.
First of all I know my heater tap is stuffed as it still allows coolant to flow through the core when it's 'closed'. I know it's the heater tap and not the little vacuum valve that controls it as the valve still opens and closes the heater tap, but the coolant is still coming through.
At first I thought this was why my A/C wasn't cold but after letting the A/C run for a while I felt the A/C pipes in the engine bay and not one of them was cold.
The A/C was working up until a month or so ago when I had to pull the dash apart. I believe I plugged everything back in correctly but you can never be 100% sure.
I believe the compressor is still engaging as the revs change when the A/C button is pressed but I wouldn't know for sure and I've found no evidence of any oil leaks on the A/C system.
Does anyone know what could be a possible cause of my warm A/C? What electrical connections are there for it in the dash apart from the switch? Also does anyone know if the front plate on the compressor pulley is supposed to rotate when engaged or disengaged as mine remains stationary all the time? How can I check if it still has gas in the system?

hey man, yes the plate is meant to turn when the ac is turned on and is still when it is off.. to check if you have gas in the system, on the passanger side at the back of the engine bay there will be a red or black cap on 1 of the ac lines, just take one off and push the valve with a screw driver and lots of gas should come out.. hope that helps a little..
thank you skid_lover05, you just gave me the clue I needed to work it out.
I thought it may have been something I did when I had the dash off that stuffed it but turns out thats not the case. The morning of the day I had the dash off the accessory drive belt got all chewed up and ended up all over the place. The air con happened to be on at the time.
I was just out looking at the compressor pulley up close to see if I could see anything and I noticed something sticking out about 1mm between the face plate and the pulley at the bottom of the pulley. I managed to pull it out a little bit and discovered it to be one of the ribs of my old belt. So my new theory is that this particular rib section of the belt managed to work its way into the pulley and is now tightly wrapped around everything inside making it all go to shit.
My new job for the weekend is to take off this cover plate. I'm thinking of replacing the compressor bearing while I'm at it, where can I pick one up easy? Also is there anything I should look out for while I'm at it and what are the hard parts of doing it?
