Quick question for you, recently did a VN V6 to V8 swap - entire kit pulled from a donor vehicle - engine professionally rebuilt <1000ks ago and looks to be a new torque converter. I've got a stock 3.08 diff. Transmission shits automatticaly and manually 1,2,3,4 (1,2,D,(D) fine.)
Engine RPM at 80kms is 2100, 100kms is 2500.
I did some searching and the only thing I can seem to logically work out is that the torque converter is failing to lockup. Even so, isnt the Revs alittle high?
Only other oddity is that from P to R, transmission makes a noise no other best described as something vibrating, sort of small and metallic. Metallic Rice in a tin? :P
Ive no problem with drive in any gear, and the fluid was normal.
I have accepted something is up with the transmission, as my driveshaft and diff are fine, and the V8 is too.
I really appreciate different opinions as it is driving me mental!
Cheers mates
non lock up converter
revs seem alittle high to me, dunno what my diff is but I get about 2100 revs at 110 in 4th, and about 2500 in 3rd. can you shift between the two? TCC lockup only makes about 1-200 revs difference.
good luck

Ive got alot of play in the rocker/lifter department so I suspect that the power loss there contributes say... 200/300 rpm?
I swear ive had so many problems diagnosing (and subsequently replacing parts) i swear my VN in decades to come will be one of the last on this planet.
I'll try overriding the TrQ Converter lockup and seeing if I can force it.
Failing that, as the torque converter looks darn new - is the lockup solenoid on a V8 the same as a V6? Anyone know off the top of their head?
Thanks mates, i appreciate the second opinion. Really does your head in.
Revs are high.
My car sits at a tad under 1900rpm at 100km/hr, with the 3.08 diff.
I wouldn't worry about the noise when going into reverse, they all make some sort of noise.
