hey every1 was just wondering how hard is it to fit extractors. can it be done yourself if so what has to be done 2 do it.
main focus on vp commodore
from a personal experience its worth getting it done by a pro unless of cos you are confident an now how to remove broken studs, just in case some break while cracking them
will a pro put in second hand 1s so all he is charging is the labour. cause i have them just dnt no if i should fit them or some1 else should
The zorst shop fitted mine for me that i got from the wreckers. (on my old car that is) an yea it was just labour an a new stud kit cos some of mine broke
how much did it cost you mate
Roughly 100$ but only cos i supplied the stud kit
hmm guy charged me 200...?
I was thinking it was taking him a hell of a time to put them on.
No studs broken though and I am more than satisfied his work was spot on.
oh well, you get that
Cheers
Dan
ok cheers 4 that guys![]()
i did mine myself.....i was lucky no studs broke but was hard to get them in there but if i was to do it again i would take the steering rack out for ease
I got the drivers in from the bottom up with steering rack disconnected and wound to other side. The instructions suggested top down but I tried for ages and couldn't do it so there you go... Bottom up for drivers side!
They aren't too hard to fit if you have some mechanical aptitude.
Remove everything to the cat, to fit the LHS they just go in from the top - easy.
To fit the RHS, undo the two rack mounting bolts and the shaft link, pull the rack back off the mounts and wind it to the right as far as possible, fit the header from the bottom. The Y pipe is the easiest to fit. If they are Pacemaker, watch your clearance on the cross member where the pipe crosses from right to left, sometimes it will hit when warm as it expands.
what he said.
Extractors are easy to fit.
Just be wary if they are pacemakers (dunno bout other brands) but auto ones won't fit a manual, but manual ones will fit an auto (manual ones have smoother lines too!)
If they are HM's you won't have to drop the rack, just piss fart around a bit (and scratch your rocker cover) and they'll go in fine!
Do it yourself and good luck!!!
Pacemaker auto ones do fit a manual, we fitted them onto my missus car, they came out of an auto and her car is a 5 speed. Went straight in. Both VN's.
huh, learn something new everyday! I was told they wouldn't go. I've got manual ones on my auto, replaced the HM's I had one it, pacies are a billion times better!
Fanabba, was it a VS or VN-VR? I gather the Y pipe is different though? When I tried it was hitting the bottom support brace for the T5 so that's why I had to go from bottom up.
That's what I said, RHS goes in from the bottom.
