Default vs caprice dash and everything else into vp calais please help!!

gday all probably an easy answer but i cant figure it out i have a vp calais project atm and ive bought every interior piece of a vs caprice except seats (ive got ve hsv gts items for that) incl. rear roof mirrors and stereo controls with loom, dash, series 3 centre console blah blah the only thing i didnt get was the loom ive since gone out and bought a written off vr calais pulled every single loom out and replaced the entire vp loom with the vr one not fun let me tell ya!! everything works a treat exactly as it should except the car starting it was running before hand and now not so much. . the only conclusion i have is the vr has an electronic trans where as the vp doesnt and ive put the vr computer and engine loom in as i said every loom has been replaced. the engine loom has the speedo sensor thing in it so im assuming i have to cut and solder a few wires if this is the case which colours go where otherwise if something doesnt need to be there what is it running out of ideas and patience any help is immensly appreciated. i also have a 5ltr to go in but im waiting for a more appropriatly priced full t5 conversion before i put that in. will anything need to be changed for that to kick over with no issues all helpn again appreciated. cheers dave

hmm sounds very weird...its obviously different wiring in the looms, the vr stato/caprice prob had a stage 3 cluster, not sure if ur vp does or doesnt..you might have to do some chop chop and rewire to fix a few things... the VR series 2 (i think) had the 46loe gearbox which was controlled by the ecu, where as the vn-vr had T700's..

but i would keep the vp ecu in and try and rewire some of the vr loom to fix the dodgy guage, temp light and head lights..or if ur not really keen, book it into a auto elec's, they will def find the problems and fix them but doubt it will be cheap

sounds like the caprice had a lvl 3 cluster, did u get the cluster that came with the wiring loom, if u do either swap the cluster face over or look on the back of the pcb on the cluster tells u what pins relate to what.

yea i did get the cluster cause i pulled it all out of the wreck that i bought the statesman loom is just a bit that connects to the body loom in the fuse box under the dash its only got extra pieces like fog lights and clock in it. like i said before the ecu, engine loom, engine and trans are all vp standard fare and ive managed to get the car to start with these still there but i have no speedo cause the vr has an electronic auto whare as the vp doesnt the speed sensor for the vp is on the back of the trans but buggered if i know where to hook it up to aswell all the problems listed above all help and ideas is appreciated as im buggered if i know what to do cheers

the vr's auto is only electronic when it comes to changing gears.. as for the speedo sensor i believe there the same and in the same position... however with the vn/vp speedo wire goes thru the cluster (into the divide by 5 circuit, that divides the pulses of the signal by 5) then outputs the signal to the ecu.. however with the vr/vs's they send the speed signal to both the cluster and the ecu at the same time.. (violet white wire i believe it is from memory) therefore the wire that goes to the ecu needs a "jaycar speedo corrector kit" to divide the pulses by 5 that go into the ecu. if this is not done you will not be able to get above 43km/h approx, due to the ecu thinking that your going 220km/h (its cutoff) providing of course that you are using the vn ecu..

you could also find that the pinouts for the vs upper dash loom could be infact different to the vr calais upper dahs loom, even though they use the same plug.. i also suggest checking the wire colours vs pinouts for both.. worst case senior could be that you may infact have to trace both wires on both looms.. this could be causing ur other problems with ur lights etc.. that u have discussed in the other thread u posted, regarding the lights and abs light and brake light problems..

funny thing about meanvn's car is i actually wired that..

his uses a complete vr stato loom, therefor i know the plugs and wires are all corresponding.

i wired his after wiring mine with a vs calais loom.. alot harder and more fiddling around.
