Just got this list from a roadworthy test and was wondering how much this will set me back including labour?
*Replace strut tops
*Replace engine mounts
*Front link pin bushes
*Right radius rod bush
*Lower front trailing arm bushes
*Upper trailing arm bushes
Thanks![]()
I would say $1500 minimum. Depends on where you go. You won't get a straight price here. Your best bet is to go out and get some quotes.
anyone else?
97 on the engine mounts, adjustible strut tops 139, complete brushes kit 413 or about half that for the front ebay the cheepest place for parts so ive found
Thanks Mate![]()
How shagged are the engine mounts?
- perhaps take it elsewhere to get a roady? Some mechanics mistake to join in the rubber on commodore engine mounts as a 'crack' they may not be buggered at all. Mine were brand-new (replaced them myself) and took it to get a roady a week later and the tool said they were cactus.
Took it elsewhere, on the road the next day.
To replace them is a prick of a job and will cost you a few bucks.
*Replace strut tops $140
*Replace engine mounts $60
*Front link pin bushes $15
*Right radius rod bush $10 ?
*Lower front trailing arm bushes $40
*Upper trailing arm bushes $25 ?
That is how much it cost me. I got most of them from cv joints Australia in Sydney.
The guy does paypal and has awesome postage not to meantion the rubbers he sells are superpro.
email him at cvjointaust@yahoo.com.au
I just bought pwr steering rack boots, boot for the input shaft on the rack, set of wheel bearings and seals. 55 buks including postage to vic.
I would take the car elsewhere ......
some mechanics just want to get $$$$ out of you ...
Vn executive 1990 200,000kms as of 13/6/08 , oil changes every 5000kms since it rolled out the factory , strut brace for hard cornering, kn pod filter, Ngk iridiums sports exhaust..what else can I say I love my holden![]()

Were you quoted a price when you had the road worthy test done?
they want around 400 for mounts (should do gear box mount while yr at it).
the front bushes+strut and stuff prolly another 300
I f you mean the rear trailing arm, on the rear upper/lower suspension, they will charge a lot for that too, close to 400..
yes labour is the killer mate, if you can get it for less than $1000.00 I would be suprised.
Dan
you can get cheapo and dear mounts.
i had cheap ebnay ones sitting in my room for about 4 months and they cracked so be aware of that.
the guys quoting prices here are giving you parts prices labour normally costs about the same as parts.
honestly if you have to paysomeone to fox all that then you are best off selling the car and getting one with a roadworthy it will be less hassel.
Hey fella, If there the same as a non irs VR, I might have some almost new stuff I can sell you.
I got a wreck and apprently all the bushes under neath are new, Ill sus it out this arvo for you and get back you?
Hey ethan yeh that sounds good yeh just give me price and we can go from therethanks mate.
Didn't get a chance to jack it up and check.
Pulled my statos console apart and fix that annoying hand brake chime.
as above, if u or some mates are half handy with a spanner and got a workshop manual do it yourself! link pin bushes are a piece of piss, if u know someone with a press rip the trailing arms out and press the new bushes in yourself, i could be wrong but i think pedders sells exchange rebushed trailing arms. dunno how much work there is in the radius rod bushes i've never done them but i can't imagine its too difficult.
if u get that lot done easy enough u might have the confidence to tackle the strut tops and engine mounts, if not at least the mechanics bill will be less if do do all u can yourself
