Hey guys. Ive aquired a VR Commodore off my uncle which hes taken the engine out of for another VR of his...Anyway I plan to put the V6 out of my VP parts car in the VR. Anyway my mate has sold me a 5sp gearbox, pedal box, clutch & flywheel out of his written off series 1 VN for $250. I know series 1 VN flywheels are 6 bolt & VR flywheels are 8 bolt but what are VP flywheels? Will there be any other hassles fitting a VP V6 into a VR & with the manual conversion?
I think you will be right. the VN s2, VP and VR have the same 8 bolt flywheels. Some thing to do with the VR ECUs are different I have heard but not sure? I heard you have to mod some wiring on the VR to make it work?
hmmm ok so ill have to track down an 8 bolt manual flywheel then.
Also im guessing ill need a tailshaft too.
Can I use an auto starter or do i need a manual one?
Yes you will need a 8 bolt flywheel, tail shaft (almost forgot about that one)
You will also need a manual starter, a remy delco starter. lol my VP has one of those and its an auto. very rare indeed.
question? I am going to convert my auto VP soon using VN manual parts. With the VP ECU, do i just mod the wiring where the auto safety switch is and install a manual memcal? or is the memcal unnecessary?
Ok. So the starter says DELCO-REMY on it? I dont want the wreckers ripping me off.
Will say a manual VR engine loom plug into a manual VP ecu or vice versa?
not sure. i never owned a vr.
Not sure if you've had a rear through this but check it out, I'm doing a manual in my stato in about a week and a halfs time and this guide is super help ful.
