transmission blown

How easy is it to install a new transmission?
Mine has died I think, It goes into reverse, neutral and first but will not go into second and third?

any ideas.

You sure it goes into first and not third? (if its an auto)
That would indicate SAFE/LIMP mode

its an auto, first gear only (revs like hell), but it will go into neutral and reverse.
I think it has died, previously I noticed it wasnt finding reverse somtimes and I had to
throw it into another gear like neutral then back again or wait 6 seconds or so for it to jerk into reverse., then it stopped doing that for a while then dies today..

bought one from the wreckers, $275.00, got a mechanic to put it in. $350.00, I am now financially ****ed, but I need transport.
cant afford a fitted recon $1700.00.

At the moment I could not give this car away, I am just keeping it till I
get some better work and I can get rid of it, Im only doing a bit of on call work ATM, soon as I land a god job, this car is history.
