When did the front plastic air dam under the radiator change from the VN style one to the later one? Holden reckon with the VP but it must have been with the VP Series 2 only if that's the case since mine came factory with the VN stlye, just wondering if theres a date where that happened. Anyone that is awake and has a VP go and look and tell me what one is under it. The vn one is kinda flat, and the later one is muuuch wider

Heres a quick answer for you...
My VN Series 2: Flat, boring and now chopped off. (June '91)
Mates VP Series 2: Long Slim type
Random VP in nearby carpark: Long slim type.
Brothers VP Berlina: Long slim type. (Aug '91)
All 3 of my VN's have the short units.
Will have a look at all the wrecks on Friday
9/88 Wagon short type
5/91 Exec short type.
9/91 Calais short type

White 05 V6 VZ Executive - Thrashed Ex Telstra car
and 3 Dangerous non ABS VN's
hmm this is a bit weird isn't it
My VN march? 1990 had the short one as did my VP October 92 (one of the last few Series 1's)
I would like to know why Holden changed it, is the new one that much better at keeping the engine bay cool or is it because it is less costly to make than the longer (at the back) VN styled one
Luke found a good picture of the later one

Do you think it's possible VP V8s got the old one while the V6's got the new one? makes not much sense cause the VR/S V8 have the later one. Anyway since I bought a new one from Holden yesterday here is the part number for the later one "Baffle chute" PN 92039628

I ripped my old ratty one off ages ago...looks way better without and still keeps cool.
i'll take a photo tomorrow, 92 vp (will also get build date). by looking at that photo though i think mine's already been removed![]()

Yeah well I removed mine, only to find out doing that is bulk fail :P hence buying a new one, sounds like they were running both types on the VPs for a while
So why do you like them so much foamy?
Because, a cooler engine bay is a faster engine
Does the wider VP/R shroud have different mount holes to the earlier VN type?
i don't have one. let me know how it goes foamy and if it's good i might buy one for my car
I noticed the temp difference having it/not having it made is MASSIVE.
when i put my car back together recently, i drove for a week without it - and was wondering why my engine bay was so damn hot!
(granted it gets pretty hot in there anyway)
but without the diffuser thing, the hot air gets trapped under the bonnet, and doesn't go anywhere it ends up getting hotter and hotter etc - to the point where i'd open my bonnet and be whacked with a massive amount of hot air escaping as soon as the bonnet was opened.
with diffuser in place, it pushes the air passing under the car downards a bit, which creates a pressure difference? or something? , essentially sucking the hot air from the engine bay out the bottom of the car. (and promoting flow through the radiator and whatever else you have stashed at the front nof the bay)
after fitting it, the same drive length and style would result in no 'radiant' heat after the bonnet was popped. In fact, you could put your hands in the bay and it would be only mildly warm, with the only heat radiating off the engine and associated parts. (as opposed to the whole air in there being real hot)
so... +1 for diffusers![]()
well that's sold it for me then. how's it attached? and foamy how much is it from holden? might just go down to the wreckers and get one instead, will be quicker

My thermo fan hardly ever gets turned off, my temp gauge doesn't even get to half way through the first quarter either though.
