5 speed vn, brokeded.

hey guys, i've had someone offer me a cheap vn, looks like sh*t.. he says; he blew 2 engines in it, but this time he got another engine and a 5 speed, put in a heavy duty clutch, and then he recons the gear selector or something popped off, he says it grabs fourth, but wont lock into any other gear, he says its like the gears aren't touching when he tries to put it in other gears, and its as if its in nuetral.

so what do yous think could be wrong with this gearbox? is it plain and simple rooted, or is it something small? or is he right, and its the gear selector? how much do you's think it would cost me to fix the gearbox? cause i recon i'd get it for under $500, and i could just swap that gearbox for mine, and sell it and try get a bit of my money back.. (Depending on whats wrong with the gearbox, and how much it'll cost) ooorrrr i could just go rally it....

does it grind on any gears and how firm is the shifter going into 4th compared to other gears?? maybe gearstick linkage??

The shifter CANT fall off a t5 to make it only engage certain gears.
So discount the shifter theory, the problem lies elsewhere

The only thing I'd consider that car to be any good for would be the manual pedal box and shifter quadrant. Even then don't be surprised if they are rooted too. Getting a reco V5 T5 is not expensive.
