Hi there i am going to buy and hopefully fit this radiator for my 91' VN executive,
Holden Commodore Radiator, 6cyl, VN VP VR VS S1, 88-97, - eBay Other, Cooling Systems, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 24-Mar-10 10:33:49 AEDST)
could someone please give me simplified but detailed advice on how to fit it as i want to do it myself to save the money but ive got no experience of doing it......
thankyou
J.
First, I recommend doing this on a cold engine..
2nd: Undo the Bottom Rad hose.. To let it drain out.
3rd. Undo all the Hoses (Including 2 tranny ones)
4th. Undo the Thermofan connector (It's close to the Battery)
5th. If there are any bolts on the Rad it self OR clamps on top of it..Undo/remove them.. (Mine has clamps)
6th. Lift the Rad out.
Then..Repeat the process.
Once done..
1st. Undo your Bleed Valve (Not all the way)
2nd. Open the Rad cap and fill up with Coolant until It's full.
3rd. Start the car up..And have the A/C on Heater. And continue to fill as needed.
4th. Fill up the Overflow bottle as well to Full.
5th. Wait for 5min roughly..
6th. Tight the Bleed Valve..And your set!
Wile your doing this whole process.. You should check your Rad hoses and clamps.. Make sure there still good
A Hard Hose is Good!
A soft Hose is Bad and wont keep cooled all that good![]()

edit: nvm, just pissed off that i wasted my time explaining it to you this morning when you pmd me, only thanks i get for trying to help you is you posting a thread asking the same question.
hi thanks so much for the guides, just two questions might seem really stupid;
the overflow bottle, is that just the engine coolant container?
when you say leave the it for 5 min before tightening the bleeder, is that with the engine on and the a/c heater on? im interested to know why i should have the a/c heater on btw...
thanks
do you think I should change my thermostat along with the radiator?
Certainly wouldn't hurt to change it while you're doing other bits of the cooling system
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
I remember an diy guide I read in a magazine not so long ago about replacing a radiator in a vn I'll dig it up and scan it.... It's a pretty easy process but may
help
really isnt a dificult job
guys it may seem pretty simple to us as we have done it before, obviously this guy hasnt and has asked for help. its just like being an apprentice.....everyone has to start somewhere![]()
rubber burnin gal ur a legend.....stickin up for us apprentices!
hi dumster did you or anyone else get hold of any pics for radiator replacement?
does anyone know if i have to have a gasket when im changing the thermostat in a vn series 2? how is the gasket meant to help?
Hi everyone,
Found this document extremely useful when I replaced my radiator a couple of months back. Step by Step instruction with great photos. Photos are not of a Commodore, but I found it to be largely the same process in my commie.
Hope it helps.
