Ecotech in vp is it possible
Hey guys,
I was wondering if it was possible to put a v6 ecotech in a vp calais? If you could what would be the advantages and disadvantages, and what prices would i be looking at for the engine itself. Also what other parts would i need to get if it was posiple to put an ecotech into a vp. Would i need a new ecu, tranny, diff, etc?
Any help would be good
Thanx

Yep, it's possible.
I'm in the process of doing exactly that now.
Get an ecotec from a VS, most of everything will fit the VP that way. You will need to change the ECU for a PCU ( If you want to run the LE electronic box) and patch in the engine harness. You will also need to get around the BCM. If you get the engine from a wrecked VS, grap the BCM and harness, it will make life easier.
Mine is a VT engine and box so I have had to source a few VS bits to get it to fit and the wiring is a little more complicated.
I have been told though, if you change just the engine and keep the VP box, you can run the VP ECU with a couple of tweaks.

There's no such thing as a dumb question.
The BCM (Body control module) controls a lot of the workings of the car such as security, lights, power windows, warning lamps, etc.. Without it, the engine won't start. You can get a BCM simulator from a conversion specialist to make life easier (around $400)
The Ecotec is a smoother and a little more powerful engine. In my case, I have a supercharged Ecotec so I guess it's worth it!
It is a bit of mucking around and you will need to be familiar with auto electrics.
If it's your only means of transport and there is nothing wrong with your engine, I'd stick with what you have or upgrade to a later model.

A good idea to talk to Hozy? He recently completed a Eco into VN conversion. I'm sure he can share some of his headaches in the conversion.

yeah, find Hozy's thread in the modding V6 section, it's justabout got all the headaches and fixes you need to know to complete the conversion. he used his original VN ecu which is the same setup as the VP ecu. then contact Dr Bob for a tune for your original ecu to suit the ecotec engine etc. definitly advantages in power and economy, the ecotec has 17kw standard more then the buick 3.8 engine and there are lots more mods for it also. with simple headers and 2.5 cat back exhaust plus some high ratio roller rockers from YT there's another easy 20rwkw avail as well

it probably differs per state, technically i think you would need to use the ecu/pcm that goes with the engine plus all the anti polution stuff as well for epa. you would need to check with your local state authority on that one
